Stop the Dakota Access Pipeline — again


This is urgent.

Donald Trump has taken the first step towards reviving the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines, projects that thousands of people like you workeTake Actiond for years tirelessly to stop.

Our message is, has always been, and will continue be simple: we will resist any attempts to trample Indigenous rights and our climate in order to boost profits for the fossil fuel industry. We will resist this attempt to revive dangerous oil pipelines the American people do not want.

Pleas to the Trump administration have fallen on deaf ears, but we can still take action and stop this disaster before it starts. Citibank is one of the lead funders of the Dakota Access Pipeline. If it pulls its support, the financial future of this project would become very shaky, very fast.

This is our time to rise up. Tell Citibank to pull its support for the Dakota Access Pipeline and stop funding human rights abuse and climate destruction!

Citibank claims that it supports the protection of human rights around the world. But it’s still funding a project that directly threatens the Standing Rock Sioux’s tribal sovereignty, water supply, and ancestral lands.

Add to that the militarized police response to peaceful water protectors, and it’s clear that this company cannot claim to care about human rights and support this project at the same time.

Solidarity with Indigenous leaders is adding up. Several big financial institutions have already pulled their funding for the Dakota Access Pipeline — let’s add Citibank to the list! Tell it to stop putting profits over people TODAY.

It’s not yet clear exactly what Trump’s declaration today means in terms of starting up legal proceedings or construction on these projects — but it doesn’t matter. Any step backwards towards an America run on polluting fossil fuels is a reason to rise up, resist, and stop this administration from rolling back the progress that we’ve achieved.

You’ve stood with communities on the frontlines of these pipeline projects before, now we need you to step up again.

And in a statewide listening tour just over a year ago, we heard a dad from Eastern Washington describe driving hundreds of miles each week so that his child can attend special education classes in Spokane that were unavailable in their hometown.”

Can you guess what local Republicans have to say about these unmet needs of our state’s children, parents, and teachers? That it’s all “an illusion.”
Dear WA GOP — Lack of heat, lead-poisoned water, and inaccessible school programs are not illusions.
It’s clear – Washingtonians support fully funding our schools. Earlier this week, nearly 7,000 people rallied on the capitol steps to demand action from our legislators!
If there’s one thing that Republicans should be able to get on board with, it’s funding safe, accessible, comprehensive schools for our children. But they’re dragging their feet, refusing to pass a bill that would prevent massive budget cuts – these cuts would raise class sizes and lay off thousands of teachers, and hurt the kids who rely on a great public education.

Alena Popova via Change.org – Russia decriminalizing domestic violence?
In Russia, one woman sustains injuries from domestic violence every 12 minutes. That’s 36,000 women each year. The number may be higher since there is no official mechanism for keeping track of family violence cases.Legislation in Russia already allows courts to be lenient with those who commit acts of domestic violence. Now, the Duma – Russia’s legislative body – is considering officially decriminalizing domestic violence by passing a new law.

Sign my petition here, and urge lawmakers to stand up for victims of domestic violence.

If Russia passes this new law, it could mean that more women will die, and that the criminal justice system in Russia will continue to reward those who abuse their spouses. This has to stop.

That’s why I’m calling for lawmakers to create a new law that will specifically change the way that lawmakers handle domestic violence charges. Better legislation would also include a special office to prosecute abusive men who are responsible for beating 36,000 women every day in Russia.

You can help ensure that we turn the tide and stop upwards of 12,000 women each year from dying of domestic violence. Please sign my petition.

In Western and Eastern Europe – as well as several other countries from Kazakhstan to Lithuania – adoption of similar laws have led to up to a 40 percent reduction in domestic violence cases. We can make this happen in Russia, too.

Help keep the victories for indigenous rights in Ecuador coming!
We wrote to you last week about an important victory: Ecuadorian environmental organization Acción Ecoloógica won its fight to remain open and carrying out its mission of environmental protection and indigenous rights defense. And we have even more good news to report today: Five Shuar detained on bogus charges have been freed for lack of evidence.But the indigenous movement is still under attack. The government has extended the state of emergency in Shuar territory, and Shuar federation leader Agustín Wachapá remains in jail. Leaders of Sarayaku, from a nearby province, are to be deposed by a local prosecutor this week for their actions to defend their territory and express solidarity with the Shuar.

Biographical Information

Dr. Sebi an African Herbalist, Dietitian, and holistic health specialist was born Alfredo Darrington Bowman in Honduras in 1933 and was raised by a single mother. Sebi says that this was a good thing. He did not have to worry about being pulled in different directions by different parents. Sebi credits his success to the focused leadership of his mother.
