Kathy Calvin, The UN Foundation

Friends

2017 has been quite a year. Amid challenges, division, and uncertainty, people and organizations refused to stand on the sidelines; instead, they joined with the UN and with each other to act for the world. The UN’s role as a platform for peace and progress is needed now as much as ever. That is why the UN Foundation continues to connect people, ideas, and resources to the UN to move forward on some of the world’s biggest issues.

Looking back on all we’ve accomplished with the UN and partners, I want to share a few highlights with you. Together, we have:

  • Supported U.S. engagement at the UN, holding our largest ever UNA-USA Leadership Summit by gathering advocates from nearly 40 states and mobilizing Americans to send more than 200,000 letters to their members of Congress;
  • Advanced the health and well-being of vulnerable families by helping immunize 42 million children, expand access to sustainable energy and modern contraception, and provide leadership training for 66,342 girls;
  • Harnessed big data to combat gender gaps and launched an Data Innovation Fund in partnership with the World Bank;
  • And so much more.

 this is just the beginning.

We will need your help more than ever in 2018 to support the United Nations and ensure we keep making progress toward a better world.

We can’t wait to take on 2018 with you. Hand in hand, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.

Unqualified and Dangerous ~ one is too many but this list grows

The Trump administration has been trying to stack the federal bench with unqualified and extremist judges. In the past two weeks, three judicial nominees withdrew from consideration after public outcry about their lack of qualifications, failure to disclose critical information, and outrageous views. Two nominees had never tried a case or argued a motion. One of them famously referred to transgender children as part of “Satan’s plan.”

The National Women’s Law Center has been on the frontlines of this fight,making sure that Senators and the public have all the facts about judicial nominees’ records — and how women would fare if they were confirmed. Federal courts decide cases that impact women’s lives every day, and preventing unqualified, dangerous ideologues from becoming federal judges couldn’t be more important.

You can help us continue to fight for a fair and independent judiciary by supporting NWLC today. Make your 100% tax-deductible donation now.

These are just some of the individuals whom President Trump has nominated to the federal bench.

  • Kyle Duncan, nominated to a lifetime position on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, has been one of the leaders in the effort to allow employers to use religious beliefs to deny women access to birth control.
  • Damien Schiff, nominated to a 15-year term on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, called Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy a “judicial prostitute” and compared abortion to slavery.
  • Thomas Farr, nominated to a lifetime position on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, aggressively defended a law described by the court that struck it down as “the most restrictive voting law North Carolina has seen since the era of Jim Crow.”

These individuals are just the tip of the iceberg. They weren’t nominated in spite of these dangerous views — they were nominated because of them. We can’t let Congress continue to rubber stamp judges for lifetime positions on the federal bench. We need you for this fight — please support our efforts by making your tax-deductible donation today.

There’s so much at stake. Federal courts decide legal rights and principles that are critically important to women, including the right to privacy, equal protection, anti-discrimination protections at work and at school, and protections for health and safety. And many of the judges President Trump has nominated this year are also on his unprecedented list of judges he would consider for a Supreme Court vacancy. We cannot accept any of this as typical. Not the nominees who have never argued a motion or taken a deposition and not the nominees who posted deeply unsettling and biased commentary on anonymous blogs. We will continue to expose their records and shine a light on the importance of the federal courts.

Contribute to the National Women’s Law Center and help us resist this takeover of our courts.

Sincerely,
Fatima Goss Graves

have you watched the new video?

Watch the new video:

Paul Ryan and his allies have made it perfectly clear they don’t care about us anymore. After giving the top 1% another massive tax cut at our expense, Ryan now wants to decimate Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. And it’s not even a surprise.

If we defeat Paul Ryan and swing the massive arm of change back toward working people, even a little, it will be worth the fight. This is why we’re going to win, and it’s what separates us from the other side: We care about everybody — and they don’t.

Watch the new video, share it with a friend, and chip in to help Randy Bryce repeal and replace Paul Ryan.

60 things ~ sierraclub.org

Explore. Enjoy. Protect.

The Trump administration has been unrelenting in its attacks on public lands, clean air and water, threatened wildlife, and climate change policies. I’m not lying when I say this is the worst year I’ve seen since I’ve been at the Sierra Club.How bad has this year been? Here are 60 horrible things they’ve done in the last 12 months:

29 rules overturned 24 rollbacks in progress

7 rollbacks in limbo

It’s almost too much to comprehend. We fought back, hard, this year — and we’re going to keep fighting in 2018. We’re mobilizing our grassroots, heading to Capitol Hill, and joining with groups across the country to protect our public lands, vulnerable communities, and clean air and water.

But to do that we need your support. And if you renew your support right now, a group of generous donors will MATCH your first gift up to $250,000. But only for a limited time.

Thank you for all you do,
