Stand Up to Mortgage Fraudsters and Big Banks

The Big Banks have a lot to answer for. As their greed and recklessness gave us a devastating financial crisis, they also abused and defrauded consumers. There are 7.5 million homes that have entered the foreclosure process, with another 4.8 million homeowners at risk. It’s time to set things right—and not with a slap on the wrist for bankersand fraudsters.Unfortunately, some state attorneys general are considering just that—a small slap on the wrist, not real accountability. To get the best deal for homeowners, and to make sure the banks are held fully accountable, your voice needs to be heard.

Your attorney general has the power to hold the banks accountable. Tell the AG you want real accountability and not another giveaway.

The collapse of the housing market and widespread abuses of homeowners are holding back our economy. Misconduct by the nation’s biggest banks gave us the financial crisis, and your attorney general has the power to hold them accountable. A deal already is being considered—and we have to get this right. We can’t repeat the mistakes of the bailout process.

Your attorney general will be making a decision soon; tell the AG to put homeowners above banker greed.

GREENPEACE …Philip Radford, Greenpeace

Killing whales is not science. Donate Now!Please join Greenpeace now with your end-of-year gift to stop the slaughter of whales and protect our planet.

Japanese whaling ships are closing in on whales in the Southern Ocean right now. They call their mission “science,” but no valid science is gathered from their hunts — it’s just a cover for their bloody activities.
It’s not science, it’s senseless killing, and it must end.

Make an urgent gift today to protect whales, the oceans, and our planet.  – will you step up and join Greenpeace now in fighting to stop this slaughter?

We’re only two days away from December 31 and so close to reaching our $125,000 goal. We need just 7 more donations from Washington to reach it and have the resources we need to save whales in the new year.
Whales are smart creatures — they know where they are and who they are. They feel loss and pain. They “talk” to each other. A growing body of evidence shows that whales are very similar to humans in intelligence and self-awareness. There is nothing scientific about killing nearly every whale you encounter and selling the meat for profit.
Commercial hunts by any name must end.
Please donate now to stop the killing and save whales from this deadly “science.”
With your help we’ll mobilize public support, run newspaper ads, lead a coalition of NGOs and pressure the Obama administration and the International Whaling Commission to close these deadly loopholes and put an end to commercial whaling once and for all.
We’ve already been successful in dramatically reducing the market for whale meat to the point where the industry is shutting down. But operations like Japan’s are being propped up by government subsidies.
Right now is the time to tip the scales and completely end commercial whaling. Now’s our chance, and Carmen, there’s not much time left — please join us in the fight to save whales.

For the whales,
Philip Radford Greenpeace
P.S. Please donate now through our secure website or at 1-800-722-6995 to help us reach our $125,000 year-end goal and save the lives of these magnificent whales — we need just 7 more supporters like you from Washington.

What Medicare means … Maria Cantwell

When I see Republicans using every trick in the book in an attempt to end Medicare as we know it, I wonder if they really understand what Medicare means to seniors.

It’s more than just a way to pay for routine care like checkups and screenings. It’s a guarantee of economic security — a promise that, if you put in a lifetime of hard work, the floor won’t fall out from underneath your retirement because of a health problem.

Every day, I hear from Washington seniors who rely on this promise — and from people still in the workforce who wonder if it will be there for them when they retire. That’s why I’m committed to strengthening Medicare. I fought to pass reform that will send $250 rebates to 62,000 Washington seniors — a down payment on closing the prescription drugdonut hole.”

That’s the path forward on Medicare: bringing down costs, improving quality, and maintaining that promise of retirement security.

But some see a different path, one in which Medicare would be turned into a voucher program. This would be great for insurance companies — but it would require seniors to pay more. And with so many living on a fixed income, this could leave them with nowhere to turn. A program like that wouldn’t be fair to seniors who rely on Medicare for their economic security. It wouldn’t be Medicare at all.

Medicare is critical to the retirement security of millions. It is a promise we made nearly half a century ago, one of the best things we’ve done as a country. And protecting it is one of the jobs I’m most proud to do.

I’ll be in touch soon with an update on our fight to protect Medicare. But, for now, thank you for being part of this team.

Wow, it’s been an incredible year and it’s time for us to say thank you.

It’s activists like you that got us to the negotiating table with Disney to get rainforest destruction out of their supply chain. It’s activists like you that pushed President Obama to make the decision to delay (and possibly kill) the Keystone XL pipeline.

Together, as Rainforest Action Network, we have amassed a lot of hard work, skill and passion to fight for thriving forests, the rights of Indigenous frontline communities and a stable climate. It is not easy work. Not even close. But the rewards of success are so great, it is worth every moment.

So to thank you for everything—the emails, phone calls, rally support, financial contributions, direct actions, and all the events you showed up for—we put together this little video.

Thank You Video from RAN

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

For the planet,
Your friends at Rainforest Action Network

The Fix Gun Checks tour is on its way to DC to hand-deliver more than 350,000 signatures urging Congress to fix the national gun background check system — and there’s still time to add yours.

We’ve crisscrossed 21 states and launched more than 50 public events with mayors, law enforcement and supporters like you. Now we’re sending Congress the message that it’s time to fix America’s broken background check system.

Check out this inspiring video of the Fix Gun Checks tour and our journey to Washington, then sign our petition before we deliver it to Congress.

More than 10,000 Americans have been murdered with guns since the tragic shooting in Tucson, Arizona that left six people dead and 13 others injured, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

It’s past time for Congress to close the loopholes that allow dangerous people to get their hands on guns. And this month, more than 350,000 Americans will send that message directly to our leaders in Congress.

Thank you for your support,
Omar
