FDL

Hey –

What do you think will happen this Election Day?

Will Democrats lose control of the house? Will Prop 19 pass in California?

As the polling numbers and pundits offer competing predictions for this year’s midterm elections, Firedoglake is helping our activists throw their own bets into the ring. That’s why we’re proud to announce FDL’s 2010 Election Projection Challenge — your chance to prove everyone else wrong!

The contest is simple. Just visit our Election Projection Challenge page and enter your predictions for a chance to win bragging rights and one of our great prizes!

Click here to place your bets!

To win, all you need to do is guess the following outcomes:

  • How many House seats will Democrats hold in the 112th Congress?
  • How many Senate seats will Democrats hold in the 112th Congress?
  • Will Prop 19 pass?
  • What will the final percentage be for “Yes” on Prop 19?

You can even vote multiple times, but your last vote will be the only one counted in the end. The contest will end before polls close on Tuesday, November 2nd.

First prize gets a DVD of the documentary film Emperor of Hemp and a $50 gift certificate to the Just Say Now store. Second and Third prizes can choose between an autographed copy of Matt Taibbi’s new book, Griftopia: Bubble Machines, Vampire Squids, and the Long Con That Is Breaking America or an autographed copy of Arianna Huffington’s new book, Third World America.

a message from Speaker Pelosi

Moments ago, I was briefed by our DCCC strategists on our final Election Day projections.

Your investments are paying off: we are seeing Democrats surging in key races and great early vote numbers. Several new key opportunities have opened up, but there are many races that are still too close to call.

We must stand united in these final critical hours if we don’t want to see what we have worked so hard for come undone. It will all come down to voter turnout.

Quite simply, we will win as many races as we can afford to send get-out-the-vote resources to this final make-or-break weekend. We must have $100,000 more in the bank by 5pm today to wire the funds in time. Time is running out; I need your support now more than ever.

Please contribute $5, $10 or more today to support voter contact activity that will be the difference between victory and defeat for Democrats in too-close-to-call races.

Years from now, what will you tell your children about this historic election?

Will you say that you sat on the sidelines in the final days and watched the special interests with their secret money hostilely take over our democracy? Or will you tell them that you were part of the team that proved the pundits wrong and won another grassroots victory for Democrats on behalf of America’s middle class?

That story will be written in this weekend.

Please help us raise $100,000 more by 5pm today so we can wire resources to our campaigns for this final, make or break weekend.

Onward to victory.

Was race a factor in Bears nightclub incident?

Bears veterans took the rookies out Monday night for their traditional dinner but it didn’t all go well. The moveable feast went to a number of establishments but one, Angels & Kings in Chicago, turned away the group, according to some reports because of the presence of so many black players.

Defensive end Israel Idonije did not view the incident as racial in nature. “No, absolutely not,” Idonije said.

Lance Briggs was less certain. “I’m not to sure about all of that so I can only speculate on what happened,” Briggs said. “It sounded along those lines, that maybe the crowd was ‘too dark.’ But that’s just hearsay for me.”

As far as going back, “probably not,” Briggs said. “No, not at all. You’re not going to see me in Angels and Kings.” Informed that people involved in the turn-away were fired, “then maybe we can think about going back,” Briggs said.

The club released the following statement:

“Every Monday night, operations of the bar are turned over to an outside vendor who hosts special events. We understand that this Monday night, members of the Chicago Bears were not admitted to the venue. We have terminated our relationship with the outside vendor. We will continue to investigate the facts and have started to reach out and apologize to the various Bears players who were involved.”
