Refinancing for Responsible Homeowners

Good afternoon —

Right now, refinancing a home mortgage can be confusing and costly — but it doesn’t have to be that way.

And that’s why President Obama is asking Congress to make things simpler for responsible homeowners as part of his To-Do List for lawmakers.

All over the country, there are Americans who bought houses before the financial crisis, and they’re locked in at high interest rates. Despite staying current with payments, they can’t refinance at today’s rates, which are historically low.

This issue affects you, even if you have a good rate, or don’t have a mortgage at all. Lower monthly payments mean lower foreclosure rates, helping property values in your community. And more money in people’s pockets helps to move our economy forward and create jobs.

By improving this process, responsible folks who work hard will be able to feel a little more secure in their finances and a little more secure in their homes.

Lowering the interest rate on your mortgage should be an idea that makes sense for both Republicans and Democrats. Outside the halls of Congress, paying a mortgage isn’t a partisan, political issue.

President Obama has done what he can to make refinancing simpler, but unless Congress acts, there’s a limit to how much we can help responsible homeowners.

Nothing will help to change the debate more than Americans across the country joining the conversation. We saw your impact a few months ago when Congress finally extended the payroll tax cut, keeping an average of $40 in everyone’s paycheck. Now it’s time to for more action – this time to help homeowners all over America.

So I’m asking you to talk to people about this refinance proposal and the other ideas on the To-Do List. You can find more info about them on WhiteHouse.gov:

This Saturday marks one of the most important milestones of the election season — it will be the first opportunity in 2012 for campaigns across the country to display the depth of their support.

Midnight on Saturday is the end of the first FEC fundraising quarter of the year. Pundits and prognosticators everywhere will use this number as a measure of strength.

Nevada is going to be one of the closest elections in the nation — which means our numbers this quarter are even more important. That’s why I set a goal — $25,000 by the filing deadline on Saturday.

Don’t miss this chance to show our strength — contribute what you can today, and help us get to our $25,000 goal before the deadline.

Special interests back in Washington, D.C. don’t think a grassroots campaign can amass the strength necessary to take on their millions. They think they’ll be able to throw so many smears at us that we won’t be able to fight back.

I know they’re wrong, but I need you to help me prove it. We need enough resources to counter the barrage that will inevitably come in this race.

This is a critical test — and an opportunity for us to make a statement about our strength. Contribute today — even if it’s $5 or $10 — and help us hit our $25,000 goal before Saturday.

I’m running for Senate because I believe in strengthening our economy and the security of the middle class. But to win, we’ll need to show that we have a different kind of strength already within us. I hope you will stand with me.

Al Jazeera English presents- History of the Occupy Movement

Hello,

I would like to share with you the first episode of this season’s Fault Lines, Al Jazeera English‘s award-winning U.S. current affairs show.

In the first of a two part series, Fault Lines tells the definitive history of Occupy Wall Street, looking at how it went from a small group of New York protesters to a broad people’s movement. Despite police repression and media ridicule, the movement mobilized thousands of people fed up with the deep economic divide in the US. Within two months hundreds of Occupy Wall Street camps swept across the country changing the political discourse in the US.

We are absolutely repulsed right now.

Sandra Fluke, the courageous Georgetown Law student who had the strength to stand up in Congress against Republican attacks on birth control coverage, is now under attack from the right wing.

First, House Republicans refused to let Sandra testify. Now, they think they can shame us into silence.

Standing up for women’s health care does not make you a “slut” or a “prostitute.” We must send the strongest message possible that we will not stand for the Republican War on Women!
