gambling …

TBI_Header.jpg

With the governor and legislature poised to approve a state constitutional amendment next year that would allow for corporate casino gambling throughout the state, some elected officials in Brooklyn have begun to prematurely salivate at the promise of tax revenues, jobs and community revival. Before jumping on this casino bandwagon and forcing the development of a casino complex on what will likely be a vulnerable community, I implore our elected and community leaders to take a hard look at what the real impact casino gambling would have on a battered and dense urban community such as Coney Island as well as other similarly situated communities in Brooklyn.

Voiceover: “As you’re making your decision … maybe you’re wondering what to believe about Mitt Romney.”
“Well, when it comes to protecting your access to birth control …  and the basic women’s health care services Planned Parenthood provides … one thing we must remember, is this:”
Mitt Romney: “I’ll cut off funding to Planned Parenthood.”
Voiceover: “He’ll cut it off. Cut us off.”
Mitt Romney: “Planned Parenthood. We’re going to get rid of that.”
Voiceover: “Women need to know … the real Mitt Romney.”

President Obama has fought for Native American communities to increase opportunities for tribes and individual tribal members. The President has respected and worked hard to strengthen our government-to-government relationships.  This administration also recognizes our history together and acknowledges the unique heritage of Native peoples that includes you in the dreams that we all share.

Republican women share their history with the Republican Party and how the party’s views are no longer aligned with their own. They don’t support Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan and share how Romney and Ryan are wrong for women.
As they share:
“If you truly believe in a small government. That government shouldn’t be deciding what I can and cannot do with my own body.”
“There is no way on God‘s green earth that I would consider voting Republican.”
“I don’t even want to think about them having control—as a woman I don’t.”
“If you’re a conservative woman, and you believe in small government, then Barack Obama is your candidate because he’s keeping the government out of the decisions that should remain between you and God, and you and your own conscience.”

Making our Voices Heard … equal pay for equal work

Here’s something I can’t imagine:

Having to tell my daughter that she may not have the same opportunities as her brother because this country elected Mitt Romney as president.

But that’s what’s on the line in this election. It seems ridiculous to me that we’re even having this discussion in 2012, but here we are: We risk progress on equal pay for equal work. We’re looking at cutbacks in childcare programs and Head Start programs. We’ll lose access to affordable health care and additional funding for higher education.

If we don’t step up and make our voices heard, we’ll pay the price after Election Day.

Women can have an enormous impact. Take a look at this video to see what I’m talking about — then pass it along to your friends:

Video: Women's Voices - Join Women for Obama

I really am so proud of President Obama. I believe that he has made important changes and he’s moving the country in the right direction, but he needs more time — he needs four more years.

We can help him win this November, but we have to vote. We have to show up, and we have to bring our friends, our moms, our sisters, and our kids to the polls with us. With only 36 days left, we’re running out of time.

That’s why I’m doing whatever I can to help spread the word. The future for me and my kids deserves nothing less.

See more about how your voice can make a difference, then share this video with your friends and family:

Julianne

Tell Congress – This Is Personal

WILD HORSES?

Some members of Congress are working overtime trying to place restrictions on women’s reproductive health care.

This January, a new Congress, including many newly elected members, will get to work. Lawmakers either can set a new, positive agenda on women’s health, or they can spend another two years trying to limit your ability to make decisions about your own reproductive health.

If women speak up now –loudly and in one voice – we can send the message that decisions about our reproductive health are not up for debate.

Sign the petition today and tell the new Congress: This Is Personal.

Our Message to the Incoming Congress:     www.thisispersonal.org

Decisions about women’s reproductive health are personal.  As you prepare to take office in 2013, my decisions about birth control, pregnancy and reproductive health services are not up for grabs.

Mitt Romney:

“There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what …”

“… who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it …”

“… And they will vote for this president no matter what …”

“… And so my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”
