Weekend review &some News -The Heritage Foundation

***Lately, cableheads have been giving out sources for their various claims with the preface of who and where they got their accurate, good or great News info lately and for a news junkie it slightly amused me, definitely annoyed me so the rant is on. I watch and listen to all things Political on the tele but i rarely feel any group, single person or guest on cable is truly giving me the truth.  It is all opinion News and while we all know this the News just seems different  since the first African-American President was elected by 53%. I get the impression from some stations that they are still having a tough time with it and quite possibly the stations who probably are folks leaning to the right of all issues paying folks to those of us left of center tidbits that seems reasonable, fair and balance though i still am not drinking the kool-aid. If you are paying attention you hear what talkingheads consider then spew the news over the course of a 15minute set and all of a sudden a jab, a knock or personal complaint is thrown at President Obama or “The Government” without naming names… which is not just offensive to me but the viewer should get it most cableheads lean right .

The article below was first written February of 2009. I only included a portion of it, so if you want to read the complete article i guess you have to go to their website but it is apparent the article was intended for fellow members of the Heritage Foundation. The problem for me is that this group was on just about every News station all during the 2008 election campaign  giving out information that the public was asked to absorb and believe as the truth …We are now about 2 years later and while they are not on main stream tv as much the rhetoric has become nastier and they  have taken to CSPAN with what I consider dangerous rhetoric.   The point is that the Heritage Foundation is not a neutral organization as many have claimed and even ed shultz had to question their intent last week as well as a few other cableheads.  If you are listening to Republicans on any given day on any talk show all you hear are talking points given to them by the Heritage Foundation and these candidates are spewing them almost verbatim…it is offensive. This article grabbed my attention in 2/2009 and it just keeps being played over and over verbally by the right even now.

Stimulus Bill Abolishes Welfare Reform and Adds New Welfare Spending …

by Robert E. Rector and Katherine Bradley … To heritage foundation members

But overturning welfare reform is just the beginning. In his recent press conference, President Obama explained that the stimulus bill would provide “tax relief” and “direct investment” in infrastructure. He neglected to mention that of the $816 billion in new spending and tax cuts in the House stimulus bill–32 percent or $264 billion–is new means-tested welfare spending, providing cash, food, housing, and medical care to poor and low income Americans.[5] (The figure in the Senate bill is about 15 percent lower.)

I have to ask is what the Heritage Foundation saying truly an American attitude?

Weekend reviews &some News

I forgot to add that President  Obama and VP Biden will be in Philadelphia today campaigning…reports of it being broadcast are great … so left coast be aware …the Band Roots will entertain…love them …FYI!!!The president spoke to more than 17,000 voters last week in Madison, Wis., where many more thousands watched on screens in an overflow area.

Weekend buzz … and rants include “the Media” screaming to all that will listen that it’s a tidal wave coming but if you are listening to the way the poll questions are configured and or how the hosts or commentators talk you start to get the sense that people have not been getting all the information so that they can make an intelligent decision when it is time to vote or maybe the question is skewed. Some days i want to wipe my nose with the stuff i hear from Political Pundits yet because i am not an insider some of it has to have some foundation and that is troubling. We are in the final weeks leading to the midterm elections and some interesting stories are coming out of the woodwork regarding a few candidates clearly on the extreme right and while it seems we cannot boot them out for their extreme ideology it is important to expose them on as many levels as possible: The fact that Meg Whitman or any other candidate would employ an undocumented worker while talking the political hard line against immigration is practicing hypocrisy at its worst…to be honest the whole wh**e comment does not bother me because Brown did not say it and why it was said proves Whitman is in fact buying votes and or endorsements which she is against right… sigh. The story about the guy who used to play Nazi dress up on weekends who is now running for a Public Service job is so outrageous as well the story about Governor Christie trying to dump the Hudson Tunnel Project which did not get enough airplay and it epitomizes why its likely we are not improving …how many other Republican officials have or are trying to lay people off or dumping projects and if so what do we assume their intent is and should they be responsible for paying back the money they took from the stimulus fund —that is a Hell yes! To continue …After the latest comments from Senator DeMint i wonder what his constituents are saying and what seems even clearer for me is DeMint definitely is telling Americans to do as we (Republican Tea Party) say not as we do and that truly is un-American. I am still trying to get over how DeMint was able to implement Universal Health Care but managed to give the rest of us the proverbial finger. I know that even though the people in Massachusetts hated the process, hated who was implementing HCR, some even protested what they call the sausage making yet while Congress was putting HCR together Massachusetts voted for a tea party guy into Congress complaining about HCR, but when you asked them 80% stated they wouldn’t give up the Universal Health Care that DeMint and others implemented but I guess they did not want the rest of us to have it. I believe the current dissent in the country is not just class warfare, race, religion so on and so forth it is because this Congress did not take a hard left and while that might be what we all want it is not what the office of President is all about. Unfortunately, Republicans refuse to let President Obama govern, refuse to be apart of the solution and well here we are – I blame the Republican Tea Party

I admit it …I feel tense when I listen to the opinion news but because I am listening closely they do fail to convince me that Congress will have a new look after Nov.2nd but if the scream of a tidal wave helps people do their civic duty -Vote for DEMS; then by all means scare us but with folks like ab stoddard all you get is democratic gloom and doom and that is tiring. I have faith that people will come to their senses even those in “the Media” because though they seem to exclude themselves from the inevitable …they too are apart of the voting consortium and should be concerned that crazy people actually have a chance to represent Americans. In the end do we blame “the Media” for what happens in November or the obvious side of the issues they seem to take because money does talk and what with major corporations owning all the cable and main stream stations can we expect them to tell the truth …food for thought eh? the comment below is from our President while at the Chicago rally.

“Sometimes I feel as if we had such a high on election night, and then there was the inauguration and Bono was singing and Beyonce,” Obama said at a fundraiser in Chicago last week. “That was the start, not the finish, of the journey. And it made each of you a shareholder in the mission of rebuilding our country and reclaiming our future.” -President barack obama  -source: charles babington -AP

Saturday …For sure the 206 will be raining, cloudy with frequent bouts of wind… sigh it’s all good this weather could be worse right. The News Tribune reports heavier-than-normal traffic is expected for a holiday weekend at the U.S. -Canada border crossings because Monday is Columbus Day in the United States and Thanksgiving Day in Canada.

My rant today is about the extreme and somewhat silly behavior of the Republican Tea Party. If you are watching the news it is hard to look away from the ugly behavior but now they are becoming downright desperate and oh boy does Meg Whitman symbolize that on so many levels. The rumors that she has been buying votes seems to have become a reality …first of all it was an aid to not the next Gov Jerry Brown and while Whitman has been unleashing the conversation with out the full context or the entire conversation i would like Jeanne and Whitman to know that given the facts behind the comment i agree with the aid. It proves that you madam are definitely buying votes.  The comment was bad for anyone to make but all we heard is what it meant on the surface and a lot of people in “the Media” came out saying oh no he did not say that on all sides of the aisle the facts remained undercover and by late last night most of us heard how and why the aid would say such a thing.  My take is those quiet meetings, backroom deals if you will and include, if the talk is real – a sum of 45million dollars.  It does prove once and for all that Meg Whitman indeed is engaging in desperate moves to get ahead of the competition by buying votes from at least the Police in California but then someone from the Police must have gotten greedy and called Brown’s camp … and i paraphrase -were giving Meg our endorsement unless you deal with our union pensions. bad behavior gone ugly

Last … some days you just have to share right maybe ask  did that strike you as weird too but then i have this need to respond because the comment seemed extreme, the writer seemingly gothic and then again it could be all about sarcasm with a little bit or splash of threatening behavior at the same time. I have a choice of  taking what the writer says seriously or decide that what the writer is sharing is that right of center love or rhetoric that so many of the Republican Tea Party members seem to engage in and spew at any given moment …always lurking under the surface. Well, i decided to share it with everyone, heck this blog is on the interwebs right …Anyway, the article Tattoo is getting some attention, actually the article from Speaker Pelosi received quite a few comments, most were nice and because we do have 1st Amendment rights folks use it and i choose to share it. The article is about the need for the Democratic Party to help support our candidates attack their opponents because clearly the Republican Tea Party has big maybe foreign Corporations funding their party not to mention the rhetoric is ugly at best, it is also filled with mis-information or their truths and should be challenged now more than ever. I have absolutely no problem with someone who wants to use their 1st Amendment rights, share their view or ideology but let’s keep it nice, play fair and don’t throw jabs that seem like threats eh? And btw stay away from my lady parts…. so …below is a comment in response to the article Tattoo

thank you for the comment from

Yes, Americans and American industry has arrayed themselves against the Leftist filth who want to destroy America.

Be thankful that, so far, it’s being handled through elections. Keep to your treasonous ways and we’ll have neither reason or desire to refrain from exterminating your ilk unto the last misborn crotch-dropping of unknown paternity.

For myself, I hope you continue; I look forward to the purge.

Never underestimate the big money

Barney Frank for Congress 2010

Earlier this year, I realized that a powerful coalition of right-wing organizations would target me in the upcoming election.  Now this has become a reality.

My opponent, a virtual unknown in Massachusetts, has suddenly been heavily promoted by a national coalition of right-wing forces.  He raised four hundred thousand dollars last month alone and he says that he is expecting a wave of independent expenditures from outside organizations — despite election rules against collaborating with them.

I need your help to oppose these powerful forces.

Last summer at a town hall meeting, I stood up to right-wing activists who outrageously compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler.  The Right has never forgiven me for this, and they are now mounting a coordinated attack against me in order to put fear in the heart of anyone show dares stand up to them.  I have been named me one of the top “Tea Party Targets” in the country.

The Right desperately wants to defeat me not only because I am outspoken, but because I am effective.  Recently, I led successful efforts to pass what the Washington Post called “the most sweeping reform of Wall Street since the Great Depression.”   The bill creates strong consumer protections and establishes a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which will be headed by Elizabeth Warren.  We passed this law over the opposition of almost every Republican in Congress and of some of the most powerful institutions in the country.

Now these forces want me to pay for that success.  You can help stop them.

We should not underestimate the power of a movement that is fueled by and is the servant of big money. It will use the immense power of negative advertising  to convince good and decent Americans that I and other Democrats are actually the cause of many problems that are the product of right-wing engineering.  If we do nothing, their lies will take hold.

This election will mark a turning point in our lives. Let us not regret that we did not go to the mat and give all we can for the things we believe.

I will be grateful for your generous support.

Barney Frank

Your house on the 12th?

On Tuesday, October 12th, OFA volunteers nationwide are organizing house parties with a special guest: President Obama, who’ll be joining via live webcast.

This year, getting commitments to vote has been a cornerstone of our plan, because our organizing experience — and a whole lot of data — has shown that it’s an incredibly effective way of boosting turnout on Election Day.

And you’ve played an instrumental role — getting folks to pledge to vote on doorsteps, on the phone, and online — all year.

But we need to significantly increase the commitments in the closing stretch of this Vote 2010 campaign, so we’re calling on the two most effective messengers we’ve got — you, and President Obama.

That’s why folks like you are holding Commit to Vote House Parties. We’ll gather with friends and neighbors to get folks involved in the elections and committed to vote — and we’ll tune in to a special message from the President about committing to vote, delivered live from a conversation with OFA supporters.

But we need volunteers like you to step up and hold events — can you host one of these house parties?

Host a Commit to Vote House Party

Even if you’ve never hosted something before, we’ve got materials to guide you along, and there’ll be a call for hosts where OFA staff can answer your questions.

All you need is a desire to make sure folks in your community turn out in November, and a place where folks can gather with internet access and a computer. That place could be your living room, but it could also be a local community center or library, as long as you’re following local rules and regulations.

President Obama needs all of us fired up during these final weeks, so we can keep moving America forward after this November.

I hope you can help out and host an event on the 12th — please get started here:

Thanks for all you do,

Jeremy

thorny Thursday &some News

Today is the last day of September and while the summer heat should make it to the 206 by the end of the day, it is quite nice outside, contrary to what others are experiencing on the east coast and the Caribbean.

I was looking through my email and subscriptions, came across the Mike Wolff editorial, and gotta say it’s too early to be getting this heated but the words, the implications and what really upset me was a need of his to generalize. I am a big believer in not making general statements or having general attitudes about anyone or thing. I thought that seemed like common sense, yet a guy who makes more money than i will ever see in my entire life decided to go there about President Obama… like so many cable pundits who label themselves as liberals and or progressives who seem to be on the attack in a moment when we need our party, as big as it is united as one group to get more true democrats on the floor of Congress instead of engaging in Political Party sabotage. I am only one person hopefully there are more people feeling some left of center are grooming the viewer for a move to support someone else in 2012, but that is just my take on what I have been hearing on cable and the airwaves. My point is that there just aren’t a lot of folks getting air time to say yes left of center folks have their opinion but they do not represent me. The growing numbers of pundits who call themselves progressives have begun to use their platforms to stir up trouble. I have no power to change the attitudes out there but I will not sit back and accept the BS that Wolff and other media types like him are engaging in. I get it Mike Wolff stepped out there and took a risk to make his opinion known, so did Arianna Huffington, ed Shultz, bill Maher as well as Michael Moore. The comments have been called supportive criticisms to push the President …well the question is push him where out of office because what I hear is not what I would call constructive criticism from these people. I hear what they didn’t get from him, what he hasn’t done for them and what they did for him and will do to him… in some cases I feel some have used folks to take responsibility for the distaste and have decided to hold their votes until at least the President contacts them. I wonder where these people got the idea to decide to sit out the 2010 mid-term elections let alone get on TV and announce their intention to have a tantrum in order to get their way like Sen. Landrieu. The list of those left of center making comments that the viewer unfortunately has been groomed to trust is endless but as a regular citizen and a democrat that truly supports this President. I have a problem with Congress and the rule of 60.  The conversation out there among some left of center pundits is I will be honest is starting to worry me. I understand freedom of speech but it also comes with a responsibility to include some truth and I just did not feel this editorial lived up to that but again that is just my opinion. Millions of people will see his article but those regular folks who disagree can only return barbs and comments in a limited fashion which are then screened and maybe someone who is reading the article will see the comment but in the meanwhile mike Wolff can sit back and take it all in without really having to take questions or defend his position. The article was not just offensive to me but seemed close to race baiting, out of touch and on the edge of discrimination.

Anyway, my response is below

Ok, I will take the bait …because that is what you are up to Mr. Wolff… We all have opinions, it sadly is misused and abused by many folks don’t you agree? As one of millions of Black folks who disagree with your diatribe …the problem with generalities is that they not only are self serving but they move into discriminatory behavior…not all black people are pleased with what the President is doing hopefully you understand we also have free will to decide for ourselves just like everyone else …your article is offensive at best silly and if nothing else you will succeed in getting a bunch of people probably mostly white folks who will agree with your thinking. You are upset about the way things are so  you  talk about President Obama not being able to deliver because he is Black…you are a Pundit and have money to place your opinion on a platform so everyone can see it …some of us don’t have the money or luxury to say what we want and have billions of people see it and think just because it is in print said by somebody with money  decide that in fact it has to be true… I say BS
