I Will Not Be Denied: Protect Women's Health Care

In the past year, thanks to the health care law:Over 20 million women with private insurance have received at least one preventive health care service without a co-pay or deductible.
Over 39 million women no longer face lifetime limits on coverage, so they can get the health care they need.
About 2.5 million young adults gained health coverage because they could stay on their parents’ plans.
And this is just the beginning. The health care law is working for women by helping them get the care they need. So why are some opponents of the law fighting to take away these benefits and common-sense protections?

Petition Text

The health care law is working for women, helping them get the care they need. The law provides important benefits and protections that promote better health and lower costs. Now, millions more women can get preventive services like mammograms and colonoscopies without a co-pay. The law also stops insurance companies from dropping anyone’s coverage simply because they’re sick.

But this is just the beginning. Later this year, millions more women will have access to well-woman exams and birth control without a co-pay and all health plans will have to include maternity care. Other important benefits and protections will continue to roll out until the law is fully implemented, insurance companies will no longer be allowed to charge women higher premiums than men. But opponents of the law are fighting to take away all these important benefits and common-sense protections.

Take a stand and help us protect women’s health care. Join the National Women’s Law Center’s campaign and tell opponents of affordable care “I Will NOT Be Denied.”™

50 Attorneys General vs. Citizens United … Michael Langenmayr, Democracy for America

Two years ago, the Supreme Court decided that big corporations and the super rich have a “right” to spend unlimited amounts of money in our elections. The Justices that supported this ridiculous decision just expected states to fall in line behind the ruling and abandon their campaign finance laws, but they haven’t.

States like Montana are fighting back against Citizens United — and they’re winning.

Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock took his fight to keep common sense election laws on the books all the way to the Montana Supreme Court — and he won. It’s time that other State Attorneys General do the same.

Back-up Steve Bullock in his fight against Citizens United — Sign the petition to get your Attorney General to stand up for common sense campaign finance laws.

Right-wing groups like Citizens United aren’t stopping at the federal level. They’re dismantling campaign finance laws across the country — working to allow unlimited corporate spending up and down the ballot and even to undo basic disclosure laws that require campaigns to report who’s giving these unlimited contributions.

We’ve seen what the Citizens United ruling has done to federal politics — attack ads flooded the airwaves in 2010 and are dominating the Republican presidential primaries. We can’t allow that same sort of unlimited corporate spending at the state and local levels.

The campaign to overturn Citizens United is going to be a long one, but state Attorneys General can make a real difference right now — and you can get them off the sidelines.

Tell your Attorney General to stand up for common sense campaign finance laws — Sign the petition now.

Thank you for everything you do.

Urgent: The SEC could cave to Big Oil’s bullying

Urgent: The SEC Could Cave to Big Oil’s Bullying

Two years ago we won a huge victory for transparency when a new law was implemented that ensured oil, gas and mining companies must reveal what they pay to African governments for access to their natural resources.

This law could save millions of people from extreme poverty, but now it’s under attack. »

Without this law, Big Oil was able to spend huge amounts of money on secret deals that was often pocketed by corrupt governments instead going to African people facing extreme poverty.

That meant people facing starvation while their leaders pocketed billions. »

Strongly enforced transparency in these deals could mean this money makes it to the people who need it the most. It could build the infrastructure, hospitals and schools Africa desperately needs to pull millions out of extreme poverty.

But it will be back to business as usual if the SEC caves to Big Oil’s demands for lax regulations and less transparency.

The SEC could be making a decision any day now.

Take action today: It’s up to us to be a voice for the voiceless and stand up to Big Oil’s bullying! »

Thanks for taking action!Ellen B.

Stand with the President in the fight for smart immigration policy … BarackObama.com

President Obama and his administration just proposed a common-sense change to our country’s immigration system in order to keep American families together.

This isn’t just a historic step for the hundreds of thousands of families who would be affected by this policy—it’s also a defining moment for this campaign.

Let the President know you stand with him in the fight for a smart, fair immigration system.

Under current law, undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens must leave the country to complete the immigration process—meaning thousands of families are separated every year while trying to pursue a legal path to citizenship.

The President’s plan would cut bureaucratic wait times and relieve an unfair burden on U.S. citizens who are unfairly separated from their loved ones during the legal immigration process. This proposal would build on other common-sense immigration reforms the President has put in place to help keep hardworking American families, who have played by the rules, together.

That’s why we need to have the President’s back in this fight—and the fights to come—in this election. Say you’ll stand with him today.

Call AG Rob McKenna: Hold Wall Street crooks accountable

Original Post on 12/01/2011

Call Attorney General Rob McKenna: Hold Wall Street criminals accountable!

Call your Attorney General and demand criminal penalties for unscrupulous mortgage servicers.

Call Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna at (360) 753-6200.

Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna has a chance to make sure some of Wall Street’s biggest criminals don’t get away with cheating millions of foreclosure victims. But we need you to make a call right now.

Less than a month ago, the lead Attorney General in a 50-state investigation of the mortgage industry, Tom Miller of Iowa, promised a group of foreclosure victims and their advocates that the investigation would “put people in jail.”1

This was in response to revelations from Congressional hearings and news articles documenting pervasive abuses by mortgage servicers — the companies that collect the mortgage payments, impose late fees, negotiate loan modifications and initiate foreclosures.

But now AG Miller has changed his tune, calling the investigation “inherently civil,” not criminal.2 And just last week, when AG Miller once again met with foreclosure victims, he refused to repeat his pledge to prosecute those responsible.3

Call Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna now and demand criminal penalties for Wall Street’s worst — unscrupulous mortgage servicers. Here’s the call info and a sample script:

Attorney General Rob McKenna — (360) 753-6200

SCRIPT: “I am a resident of Washington and I am watching the foreclosure fraud investigation very closely. I want to make sure that the Attorney General reaches as strong a settlement as possible with the banks. The settlement must include principal reduction for millions of homeowners and imposes criminal penalties on those who broke the law.”

It’s clear that AG Miller and the other 49 Attorneys General are being pressured by the big banks to agree to a settlement that lets them off the hook. But we can’t let them get away with cheating millions of Americans. We need to fight back.

That’s why we’re teaming up with our friends at National People’s Action for a national call campaign targeting the attorneys general of every state. Join thousands of activists across the country in calling your state’s attorney general to demand that Wall Street’s biggest criminals are held accountable for their crimes against foreclosure victims.

Call Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna now and demand criminal penalties for corrupt mortgage servicers.

Attorney General Rob McKenna — (360) 753-6200

Thank you for fighting back against criminal Wall Street banks.
