what a successful Presidency looks like

The following sponsored message was sent to you by AlterNet on behalf of DCCC:

To be sure the numbers have shot upward

This is what a successful Presidency looks like:

President Obama Took Office
(January 2009)
Today
7,949 The Dow Jones Index 17,573
7.8% Unemployment 5.8%
-5.4% GDP Growth 3.5%
9.8% Deficit GDP % 2.8%
37.7 Consumer Confidence 94.5

In 6 years under President Barack Obama, we’ve made incredible progress as a country.

Often in the face of incredible obstruction, the President has continued to fight for us and lead us forward.

Will you add your name now and say that you’re still standing with President Obama in his final two years in office?

Support Amazon.com … To preserve the Amazon and advance the rights of indigenous communities on the front lines.

It’s been a powerful few weeks here at Amazon Watch. Our work is being recognized around the globe, and support continues to grow in every corner. The primary reason? We’re confronting the most important issues of our time, doing it with both power AND integrity, and achieving big results.

Those results wouldn’t be possible without your support, and we invite you to help us leverage these recent successes to achieve even greater positive change for the Amazon and our climate future. Please donate today to preserve the Amazon and advance the rights of indigenous communities on the front lines.

By defending the rights of our indigenous partners and educating the world about the threats to the Amazon, we’ve changed the conversation. Vatican officials had said that Pope Francis would not address the environment during his trip to South America. However, after pleas from indigenous leaders, civil society, and the many thousands of you who called on the Pope to urge President Correa to leave the oil in the ground in Yasuní National Park and to respect indigenous rights, the Vatican changed course. In his first papal visit to South America, Pope Francis passionately called on Ecuador to protect the Amazon and issued a strongly-worded apology for the grave injustices the Catholic church had perpetrated on indigenous peoples.

Shortly after that, the news hit that Amazon Watch is one of several environmental organizations receiving support from Leonardo DiCaprio and his foundation. This support is critical to our plans to continue working with indigenous allies and our global network of supporters to engage world leaders in the campaign to keep fossil fuels in the ground from the Amazon to the Arctic. #keepitintheground!

Please stand with us and make your gift today. Together we will ensure that the movement continues to grow.

For the Amazon and our future,

Leila Salazar-López
