This iconic documentary tells the story of gay and transgender African Americans and Latinos in New York City in the mid-to-late 1980s who respond to challenges with courage and creativity. Told with community voices, this award-winning film by Jennie Livingston about drag culture and voguing tells a deeply human story about families, survival, and dignity. This year is the 25th anniversary of the film’s release in 1990.

Following this screening, there will be an onstage conversation with Smithsonian curator Katherine Ott, LGBT activist and emcee Rayceen Pendarvis, original cast member Dr. Sol Williams Pendavis, Casa Ruby founder Ruby Corado, and the audience. Volunteer support is provided by SI GLOBE, the Smithsonian’s LGBT employees group. Participate on social media with the hashtags #ParisIsBurning and #SmithsonianPride.

FDA is exploring the future of breast cancer detection. Scientists at FDA are studying the next generation of screening and diagnostic devices, some of which borrow from the world of entertainment. In the future, those 3D images and displays may help doctors find hidden tumors and better diagnose cancers.

Today, Labor Secretary Tom Perez, Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, MomsRising Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, and small business owner Molly Moon Neitzel are taking part in a Google+ Hangout on paid leave. During the conversation, they’ll share an important announcement and updates on the action across the country to help more working families succeed.

In this week’s address, President Obama reiterated that his top priority is to grow the American economy and ensure that every hardworking American has a fair shot at success. Dr. Jill Biden Sponsors and Christens the USS Gabrielle Giffords

On Saturday, Dr. Jill Biden took part in the christening ceremony for the USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10), named after former Congresswoman and Navy spouse Gabby Giffords. The ship is expected to be delivered to the Littoral Combat fleet by 2017.

They lost badly at the ballot box, so they ran crying to a judge. He told them to take a hike, so now they’re pleading with an appeals court to overturn the will of Washington voters.
