Tell the Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that insurance companies provide maternity care for all women.
Millions of young women get health insurance coverage through their parents’ plans — but even though their parents’ policies include maternity benefits, not all of these daughters have access to maternity coverage. This means many pregnant women are without the care they need, when they need it the most. Your voice is needed. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is creating rules for insurance companies in the individual and small group markets under the new health care law. As part of this effort, they will take comments from the public about what services insurance companies must cover. Tell HHS to ensure insurance companies provide maternity coverage to women who get their health care coverage through their policy.
Maternity care leads to healthier moms and healthier babies. And health insurance coverage for these services provides financial security and peace of mind to women and their families. On average, a woman without maternity coverage will spend at least $10,000 on maternity care, a huge financial burden at the time when she’s bringing a child into the world. We’ve made a lot of progress — but there’s still more to be done. Send in your comments and ensure that insurance companies are required to provide maternity coverage for all individuals.
The National Women’s Law Center shined a spotlight on the fact that when women buy health coverage directly from insurance companies, only twelve percent of those health plans cover maternity care. With your help, we’ll continue the important fight to ensure all women have maternity coverage when they need it.

Unconscionable — that’s the only way to describe an extreme policy that denies servicewomen and military dependents coverage for abortion services if they become pregnant as the result of rape. To add insult to injury, their civilian counterparts who also get their health insurance through the federal government do not face the same cruel policy.
Do your duty: tell your Members of Congress to end the outrageous abortion coverage ban for servicewomen and military dependents who have been raped or endured incest.
Congress will soon finalize the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Thanks to Senator Shaheen, they’ll have the opportunity to pass a version of the bill which removes this abhorrent ban, but some anti-choice Members of Congress who are willing to play politics with the women that serve this nation are standing in the way of ending this unjust ban.
This policy is simply wrong. We need your voice to end it today: tell Congress to end the abortion coverage ban for servicewomen and military dependents who become pregnant due to rape or incest.

Tell your Representative to oppose the effort to limit access to abortion for women who live in Washington, D.C.
With only a few days left until August recess, this is what they are prioritizing — an anti-abortion bill that the Senate will never consider? Well, the House of Representatives is at it again and this time, just to add insult to injury, they are going after women who have no voting representation in the House. Tell your Member of Congress to oppose the D.C. Abortion Ban and stop your Representative from making decisions for women about their reproductive health.
H.R. 3803, also known as the “D.C. Abortion Ban,” would ban almost all abortions in Washington, D.C. for women starting at twenty weeks post-fertilization. The legislation seeks to ban abortion after twenty weeks regardless of a woman’s situation and without exceptions for rape, incest or to protect a woman’s health.
This unconstitutional bill follows the onslaught of reproductive health attacks that aim to deny women access to a constitutional right. The attacks this year have been particularly extreme: from state laws that defund Planned Parenthood to federal legislation that would require doctors to racially profile their patients before allowing them decide to terminate a pregnancy.
We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again: our health is not up for debate!Tell your Representative to oppose the D.C. Abortion Ban and stop restricting women’s access to reproductive health today.

Tell HHS all women deserve access to birth control without a co-pay!
Forty-seven years ago today, the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Griswold v. Connecticut established a right to use contraceptives without interference from the state. It’s hard to believe that nearly a half century later, politicians are still trying to erect barriers to women’s access to affordable birth control.
Last summer, we secured a big victory when all FDA-approved contraceptives were added to the list of preventive health services that all new health insurance plans must cover without a co-pay or deductible. Unfortunately, 335,000 houses of worship received an exemption from the requirement, leaving their female employees without access to this critical benefit.
Now the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has proposed an “accommodation” for other religiously affiliated organizations, which would shift the responsibility of providing contraceptive coverage without cost sharing to the insurance companies. HHS is asking for comments and we must make sure that any “accommodation” does not put additional hurdles in the path of women seeking contraception. Employees of religiously affiliated organizations must have access to contraception to the same extent as employees of other organizations and companies.
