a message from sen.Barney Frank … Help build a working Washington State!

Help elect a pro-equality governor.

Last year, New York state showed what a difference a governor can make in the fight for marriage equality.

In 2012, Washingtonians have a chance to elect another governor who will always stand up and fight for equal rights: my friend, Jay Inslee.

Jay is facing a tough race against a well-funded opponent — one whose stance on equality couldn’t be further from Jay’s. With landmark marriage equality legislation making its way through the Washington legislature as we speak, Washington will need a governor who can be counted on to stand up and fight for all Washingtonians’ equal rights.

Will you join me and contribute $5 or more to Jay’s campaign today?

All it takes is a quick look at each candidate’s previous statements to figure out where they stand on marriage equality.

Jay is unequivocal. He says, “I believe in marriage equality,” and that equality for all couples is a “quintessential Washington value.”

And Jay took this principled stand at the very beginning of his campaign for governor — before everyone’s eyes were focused on the marriage equality fight in Washington.

Not Rob McKenna. He thinks marriage equality “threatens to destroy all standards we apply to the right of marriage” and has equated it to polygamy.

As Washington’s next governor, one of these men will be responsible for enforcing Washington’s marriage equality legislation. One of these men will lead a state government that will have to choose whether or not to stand by Washington’s gay and lesbian families when that legislation’s validity is challenged.

Only one of these men can be trusted to take on that job: Jay Inslee.

Join me today and help make sure Washington’s next governor is one who stands on the side of equality and will stand in defense of the progress we’ve made.

Make a contribution of $5 or more to Jay’s campaign today.

As a long-time advocate of marriage equality, the progress we have made across this country in the last few years is inspiring.

We couldn’t have done it without the grassroots efforts of millions of people standing together, and we couldn’t have done it without courageous elected officials who refuse to accept discrimination any longer.

The grassroots momentum for marriage equality is building in Washington. As Jay said earlier this week — “We are standing at the edge of history.”

Now we need to make sure Washington’s next chief executive is one who will champion this movement and fight for us.

Contribute $5 or more to support Jay Inslee and help elect a pro-equality governor for Washington.

Thank you for your generous support of Jay’s campaign.

Sincerely,

Barney Frank
United States Congressman

Support Jay Inslee for Governor of Washington State …

Since I announced my jobs plan last week, people from across the state have been expressing their support for our commonsense approach to job creation — an approach that will create good-paying, middle-class jobs for all kinds of workers in every corner of our state.

They know, like I do, that building a working Washington requires us to identify industries where we can or do out-compete the rest of the world. And by focusing on building up those industries, we CAN out-compete the world. No place is better suited to pursue a bold, innovative, and forward-thinking approach than Washington state.

We’ve put together a short video with some of our favorite moments from last week’s events, and I wanted to share it with you. Do you have couple minutes to watch it?

Watch the highlights from the speech

Click here to see highlights from our jobs plan announcement, read the plan, and share Jay’s ideas for creating jobs throughout Washington!

This is the first of several proposals we’ll be releasing over the coming months. It means a lot to know that you’re with us as we start the discussion about the key policies we will enact during my administration.

I hope you’ll take a minute to watch our video and read my plan now, and then share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Very truly yours,

Jay Inslee

WA State – Support Jay Inslee FOR Governor … Building a Working Washington

Dear Supporter,

Read my jobs planEarlier today, I unveiled my jobs plan, Building a New Economy for Washington, and the proposals I will pursue to create jobs as Washington’s next governor.

If there’s one state I believe can turn its economy around, that can harness an innovative and creative vision for the future, it’s our state. We are uniquely suited to build a new economy that raises the quality of life for middle-class families for generations to come — and that’s because our state has a unique blend of innovation and values not found anywhere else.

We create. We invent. We build.

This is our first major policy proposal, but it won’t be our last. Over the weeks and months to come, this will be the trailhead as we chart a path to Building a Working Washington.

I want to know you’re standing with me.

Read my plan, Building a New Economy for Washington, today and then sign on as a citizen endorser.

Washingtonians are at a crucial point in our history.

We are still trying to recover from this recession. We are in an international competition for jobs. The middle class is being squeezed like never before. For the first time, parents are facing the prospect of diminished opportunity for their kids.

It’s a wake-up call, and I refuse to let it go unanswered.

My plan takes into account these challenges, the potential we have right now to take steps in the right direction, and the opportunity we have to build on Washington’s innovative past and grow industries of the future like clean tech.

We accomplish this by focusing on existing industry clusters where Washington already can — or has the potential to — out-compete national and international competitors. Then we examine what is standing in the way of growing these industries further, what competition we face from out of state, and what changes we can make that will immediately make Washington more competitive to keep existing jobs while creating new ones.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read my plan and let me know you’re with me.

Read my plan, Building a New Economy for Washington, today and then sign on as a citizen endorser.

In the coming year, we have a choice. We can choose to go small, and tinker around the edges, and suffer from the same tired economic results.

Or we can choose a different approach — a bold, innovative, forward-thinking approach — led by someone who isn’t afraid to think outside the box, be independent, and take the difficult, but right, path.

Together, we will build this new economy. It will take hard work, but that is in our state’s history — and in our future.

I’m committed to this fight. I hope you are too. Read my plan today, and join me.

Very truly yours,

Jay Inslee

Call AG Rob McKenna: Hold Wall Street crooks accountable

Original Post on 12/01/2011

Call Attorney General Rob McKenna: Hold Wall Street criminals accountable!

Call your Attorney General and demand criminal penalties for unscrupulous mortgage servicers.

Call Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna at (360) 753-6200.

Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna has a chance to make sure some of Wall Street’s biggest criminals don’t get away with cheating millions of foreclosure victims. But we need you to make a call right now.

Less than a month ago, the lead Attorney General in a 50-state investigation of the mortgage industry, Tom Miller of Iowa, promised a group of foreclosure victims and their advocates that the investigation would “put people in jail.”1

This was in response to revelations from Congressional hearings and news articles documenting pervasive abuses by mortgage servicers — the companies that collect the mortgage payments, impose late fees, negotiate loan modifications and initiate foreclosures.

But now AG Miller has changed his tune, calling the investigation “inherently civil,” not criminal.2 And just last week, when AG Miller once again met with foreclosure victims, he refused to repeat his pledge to prosecute those responsible.3

Call Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna now and demand criminal penalties for Wall Street’s worst — unscrupulous mortgage servicers. Here’s the call info and a sample script:

Attorney General Rob McKenna — (360) 753-6200

SCRIPT: “I am a resident of Washington and I am watching the foreclosure fraud investigation very closely. I want to make sure that the Attorney General reaches as strong a settlement as possible with the banks. The settlement must include principal reduction for millions of homeowners and imposes criminal penalties on those who broke the law.”

It’s clear that AG Miller and the other 49 Attorneys General are being pressured by the big banks to agree to a settlement that lets them off the hook. But we can’t let them get away with cheating millions of Americans. We need to fight back.

That’s why we’re teaming up with our friends at National People’s Action for a national call campaign targeting the attorneys general of every state. Join thousands of activists across the country in calling your state’s attorney general to demand that Wall Street’s biggest criminals are held accountable for their crimes against foreclosure victims.

Call Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna now and demand criminal penalties for corrupt mortgage servicers.

AG McKenna: Oppose the unfair robo-signing settlement

Dear Washington MoveOn member,

Reports are circulating that a settlement of the robo-signing case between the big Wall Street banks and the 50 state attorneys general will be announced as soon as next week. Early indications are that the settlement will amount to yet another unconscionable giveaway to the banks.

The settlement will provide too little money to homeowners, require only trivial financial penalties for the banks, distributehuge amounts of money to individuals who were NOT fraudulently foreclosed upon, and will not have sufficient enforcementmechanisms to ensure that the money banks are supposed to pay actually gets paid—all while falling far short ofcompensating actual victims for the losses they wrongfully sustained. Worst of all, early reports indicate that the settlementgrants civil and criminal immunity to the Wall Street banks and their executives.

That’s why I created a petition to Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna on SignOn.org, which says:

Oppose any settlement of the robo-signing case that provides civil or criminal immunity to banks or their executives. Instead, create a program that helps Washington state homeowners damaged by fraudulent bank processes to sue banks for full recoveryof damages and punitive awards.

Will you sign the petition? Click here to add your name, and then pass it along to your friends:
