House Republicans are holding govt hostage, again

Here’s the latest:

Boehner, Cantor, and House Republicans are once again holding our government hostage — this time over disaster aid for victims of Hurricane Irene and devastating fires across the western U.S.

We’ve all seen what can happen when Republicans get their hands on FEMA. Now they are intent on setting a dangerous precedent that victims of natural disasters are fair game as political bargaining chips. It’s appalling.

FEMA is expected to run out of disaster relief funds early next week so we must act quickly. The entire government will run out of funds just a few days later.

Please contribute $3 or more today to help us hold House Republicans accountable for heartlessly holding up disaster relief funds to their political demands >>WWW.DCCC.ORG

When our friends and neighbors see their lives turned upside down by hurricanes or tornadoes, we should stand by them. Their hardship should never be used as an opportunity for Republicans to score points with their Tea Party base.

What’s so important that Boehner, Cantor, and House Republicans are threatening to hold up assistance for victims of natural disasters and shut down the federal government?

House Republicans want to strip funding for a green energy loan program that’s created or saved 41,000 jobs.

Instead of heeding President Obama’s call to create jobs, House Republicans have presented us with a callous choice: put more Americans out of work in this tough economy or risk a government shutdown and delay of critically-needed funding for disaster victims.

I reject that choice. Will you stand with us?

P.S. September 30th marks the first Federal Election Commission (FEC) fundraising deadline since President Obama introduced the American Jobs Act. Contribute by September 30th to show your support for this bill and House Democrats will triple match your gift!

Rocket science?

It’s not rocket science.

Republicans have to choose whether to defend tax breaks for Billionaires and Big Oil companies or to protect the middle class, seniors and American jobs.

As President Obama said, “It’s not class warfare. It’s math.”

But each of us also has a choice to make: Will we stand with President Obama to create jobs — or not?  Will we take on the Tea Party’s smears and mischaracterizations — or not?

I can tell you the political world here in DC will be scouring our September 30th FEC fundraising report to see if grassroots Democrats are strong and united behind President Obama’s plan to create jobs. We’re nearly halfway to our $1 Million grassroots goal.

Will you stand with us and President Obama right now?

Contribute $3 or more right now to show Tea Party Republicans that America will not put tax breaks for Billionaires and Big Oil ahead of middle class jobs. Your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by my fellow House Democrats.

The lines are clearly drawn. The Republicans have their right-wing shadow groups and billionaire backers like the Koch Brothers on their side. I’ll take my chances standing with you.

The Plan …Steve Israel

The numbers are in! Thanks to you, we narrowly beat out our Republican counterparts in July and maintained our advantage year-to-date.

Make no mistake: you’re driving our success. Over a quarter-million of you have made a contribution this year to help us take back the Speaker’s gavel from the reckless Tea Party Congress.

I’m pleased to report we’re ahead of schedule in our drive to win the Majority. We’ve laid out our campaign plan in our “Drive for 24” Grassroots Investor Report. Download your copy here >>http://www.dccc.org/page/m/1d63c960/1b9dd8ab/425abfe1/4e0cedc9/2048910014/VEsH/

Some key stats I wanted to make sure you see:

We only need 24 seats to win the House.
The math is simple: There are 61 seats President Obama won now held by Republicans – including 18 districts won by Senator Kerry in 2004. If we win 10 of 18 Kerry-Obama seats and 15 of 43 Obama-only seats, that’s 25 seats, more than enough to win the Majority:

But we won’t stop there. We are also targeting seats that John McCain won in 2008 to put Republicans on the defensive across the country.

In each of these races, we are aggressively holding Republicans accountable for their wrong priorities. Thanks to your support, this month we launched our “Accountability August” campaign holding 44 Republicans accountable for their bad budget choices.

Our message is breaking through. Voters are fed up with Republicans playing political games with our economy and their plans to end Medicare.

The latest polls show a serious case of buyer’s remorse:

Gallup poll (August 12th): Democrats lead Republicans in the generic ballot by 7 points (51-44).
PPP poll (August 10th): Independent voters overwhelmingly disapprove of the Republican Majority in the House (68 disapprove/20 approve). If the election was today, PPP thinks Democrats would win the House.

One more stat: We have all-star recruits running in 45 Republican and open districts throughout the country. That’s well ahead of where we thought we’d be at this point. Our goal is to put at least 60 Republican seats in play when all is said and done.

Read more about our campaign in your Grassroots Investor Report >>  http://www.dccc.org/page/m/1d63c960/1b9dd8ab/425abfe1/4e0cedc9/2048910014/VEsE/

More than the how, it’s the why we are doing this.

We’re fighting to create jobs. We’re fighting to protect the rights of women, workers, seniors, and the middle class. Republicans are fighting to end Medicare to pay for more tax breaks for Big Oil and right-wing special interests. Simply put, the Tea Party agenda is not working for middle-class Americans.

24 seats puts us back in charge so we can create jobs, protect Medicare and Social Security, and out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world.

Thank you for everything you do to make that possible.

President Obama is right: We cannot allow Republicans’ political game-playing to jeopardize the full faith and credit of America’s economy.

Time is nearly up. We must send an immediate, forceful message to Speaker Boehner and Tea Party Republicans — we stand with President Obama and against Republicans’ childish games.

Can we count on your support?

Contribute $3 or more right now to show your support for President Obama and to hold Speaker Boehner and the Republicans accountable >>

Today, Speaker Boehner was caught groveling to Rush Limbaugh in private, asking for permission to try his latest political scheme before even telling his own Republican caucus about it.

The fact is, right-wing special interests, radio hosts, and Tea Party extremists have taken over the Republican Party. And these radical Republicans are just days away from plunging our economy off a cliff in order to slash Social Security and Medicare while protecting tax breaks for billionaires and big oil.

Now, with our entire economy at stake, it’s critical that we stand strong and united against Republicans’ all-out assault on the middle class.

Obama: “I will not yield”

“I’ve reached my limit. This may bring my Presidency down, but I will not yield on this.”
President Obama to Eric Cantor and Congressional Republicans
in a closed-door meeting at the White House.

President Obama has had enough of Republicans’ childish games.

Despite weeks of negotiations, Republicans are still holding our economy hostage with their ridiculous demands.

The President stuck his neck out in the face of vicious GOP attacks and media spin. Now he needs your support.

Stand with President Obama: Sign our petition right now telling the GOP to end special tax breaks for Millionaires, Billionaires and Big Oil.

That’s right: Republicans are still refusing to budge on ending even one penny of tax breaks for Billionaires and Big Oil.

We need to send an immediate message to Republicans. Stand with the President today >>

P.S. Once you sign the petition, forward this email to three friends and ask them add their names too!
