did Your Representative stand with Planned Parenthood?

Congress voted to bar Planned Parenthood from federal funding — but your representative stood with us.

Thank Rep. McDermott for voting against the bill to strip funding from Planned Parenthood health centers.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed the most outrageous — and dangerous — legislative attack on Planned Parenthood in our history.

It was a frightening show of just how far extreme anti-choice members of Congress are willing to go in their effort to eliminate Planned Parenthood health centers as a source of primary and preventive health care. While this bill poses an incredible threat to women’s health, and must be stopped in the Senate, it’s good to know that we have true allies in the House.

Your representative, Rep. McDermott , was one of the leaders who stood with us by voting against this horrific legislation. Please, take a moment to thank Rep. McDermott for voting to protect women’s health.

As we continue to fight against this and other attacks on Planned Parenthood, we need members of Congress to maintain their steadfast support. It’s important to show our allies that we appreciate their efforts to stand up for Planned Parenthood.

Click here to send your representative a quick note of thanks. http://www.ppaction.org/site/VoteCenter?page=voteInfo&voteId=11567&scid=1028&pw_id=2964&s_src=istandwppfeb2011thanksppoltaf

You know it as well as I do: this push to bar Planned Parenthood from federal funding is not an isolated incident. Planned Parenthood has been the target of persistent attacks for 95 years, and nothing — nothing — has stopped us from fighting to protect and promote women’s health every day. The only way we’ve been able to stand strong is with the unwavering support of people like you — and with the help of allies like Rep. McDermott .

Please let your representative know how much you appreciate this vote to protect Planned Parenthood and women’s health.

I want you to know that we are not done fighting this outrageous bill. We’ll be looking to you in the days ahead as this legislation moves to the Senate. I know we can stop it — and we must.

Thank you for your support and your determination, and for everything you do for the women, men, and teens who rely on Planned Parenthood every day.

Sincerely,

Harmful Bush-era “Conscience” Rule Rescinded

A few years ago, we asked you to imagine this: A woman with cervical cancer is not given information about the option to extract and freeze her eggs before her cancer treatment because her gynecologist has a religiously based opposition to infertility treatment.

You helped us oppose this Bush administration “conscience” rule by sending thousands of comments and emails to the administration. The rule, which was in effect since 2008 encouraged providers to deny access to abortion and contraception, and treatment for infertility, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS in ways the law does not allow.

When President Obama took office he proposed rescinding this harmful rule, and again you responded by sending over 5,000 comments in support of removing this restriction. We are pleased to report that the Obama administration announced late last week that it was rescinding dangerous provisions of this rule. We couldn’t have done it without your help and support!

But the battle over women’s health continues and we need your help now. Please make an urgent donation today to support the Center’s work on women’s health and other issues important to women and their families.

The new House leadership has unleashed alarming attacks on women’s health and reproductive rights, and if they have their way, women’s access to health care will be set back decades. The House voted to repeal the new health care law, which is already helping women and families. Now House leadership wants to put into law parts of the regulation which was just rescinded. For example, exempting hospitals from requirements to treat women in need of emergency abortion care, even if they may die without it. They want to raise taxes on potentially millions of individuals and small businesses that keep the insurance plans they currently have if they include coverage of abortion. And on top of it all, this past week they made it clear that they are launching an all-out assault on women’s access to contraception and other family planning services.

For nearly 40 years, the National Women’s Law Center has led the way for women and families — in the classroom, in the workplace and in society as a whole. We’re up against what is already one of the most challenging sessions of Congress in recent history, but with our team of experts and your help we know we can win, no matter how much the other side pushes its dangerous message.

Your generous donation allows us to continue to stand up for women and their families. Please support the Center’s important work today. http://action.nwlc.org/site/R?i=vP-vEw_2yVfPMfAafWcfmQ..

Alarming Attacks on Women’s Health

They voted to repeal the health care law. They even tried to deny abortions to some rape survivors. You won’t believe what House Speaker John Boehner and his colleagues have up their sleeve now.

We told you already about how Speaker Boehner and the rest of the House Republican leadership released a fiscal plan for the remainder of 2011 that puts women and families in danger. Now they’re trying to amend this plan to continue to attack the health care law by cutting funding for its implementation. Plus, they’re attacking women’s access to contraception.

We’ve got to stop them. Tell your Member of Congress to oppose harmful amendments that put women’s health at risk.    Call 202-224-3121

What exactly is on the line? Let me just give you a few examples of what some who “represent” us think is okay to propose:

“Defund” the health care law, which would undermine many important provisions like access to health coverage for people who have pre-existing conditions;

Deny millions of women access to family planning by eliminating funding for the Title X family planning programs and making it harder for states to give these services to low-income women;

Ban all federal funds for all Planned Parenthood health centers which would deny millions of women access to their trusted health care provider; and

Maintain a controversial Bush-era regulation that allows providers to refuse a wide range of health care services, information, counseling, and referrals.

And sadly, this list just scratches the surface.

You have helped us stop the House leadership from denying abortions to some rape survivors and prevented the Senate from repealing the health care law. Now we need your help again. Help us stop the attack on women’s health.

Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Judy Waxman

a message from Nancy Pelosi …Extreme Assault on Women’s Health

House Republicans have begun the most radical restrictions on women’s health in our lifetimes.

Their extreme agenda would punish women and businesses by increasing their taxes if their health insurance covers the full range of reproductive health care. It would cut off funding for women’s health care clinics that offer reproductive health services. They are also refusing to drop their attempt to redefine rape.

We cannot and must not stay silent in the face of this extreme effort to undermine women’s health and reproductive freedom in our country.

I am asking for your urgent support to help us raise $100,000 for the DCCC’s Women’s Health Rapid Response Fund so we can hold the Republicans accountable.

In the face of this extreme agenda, we cannot stay silent.

With your urgent support, we will speak out strongly against the Republicans’ effort to deny millions of Americans access to reproductive health care.

Thank you,

Nancy Pelosi
