just another rant …only it’s not mine

I posted an article from the Union of Concerned Scientists … that so controversial question …read below. I want to thank the person who responded even though it was laced with a whole lot of patronizing … i get it … Global Warming is science not politics … unfortunately, some in politics don’t seem to know or get science enough to make intelligent decisions and while the person commenting may not agree but Global Warming became Political in the late 60’s under the Nixon era …ugh right?  anyway, just thought i would share.

As I said, for no good reason, these papers and many others like them are ignored by the IPCC and its followers. You may also read criticisms on the net about some of these authors, but you should also note that the criticisms are aimed at the person, not the work, and only rarely are there academic papers, that have been peer reviewed etc., published to contradict these authors, which of course is the proper scientific way to disagree in a situation like this.

Therefore as there is no “strong, credible body of evidence” as the above sample of papers show, one needs to examine more closely what the IPCC is claiming.

On one hand we have data that shows, or purports to show, that the climate is indeed warming unusually rapidly over the last 50 years or so. I say purports, as there is some
doubt about the accuracy of the data, however the climate may well be warming.

On the other hand, we have measurements of CO2 in the atmosphere that show that this has increased concentration has increased, as a portion of the atmosphere is only about 0.0213% since 1960, (dosn’t sound too much when you put it like that does it?).

Nevertheless it is true that anthropogenic CO2 has increased.

Now in order to prove that there is a connection between these two events that is proof of a causation factor, we need peer reviewed scientific publications that show this.

Alas there appears to be none. All of the IPCC conclusions are based on 1. That this rather weak correlation is actual proof, and or 2. On scientific model results, which being only hypothesis in themselves, are not proof either.

So one would expect something along the lines of the following:-

Published academic papers using at least one of the following methods to show that the “Anthropogenic CO2 causes Global Warming” is more than just a possibility.

1 Empirical proof that shows the causation factor of CO2 with respect of Global Warming.
2. Statistical proof of Anthropogenic CO2. Im sure you know that correlations are never proof.
3. Evidence for the “Anthropogenic CO2 causes Global Warming” hypothesis to be adopted over the null hypothesis?

Now I’m sure you do not need it, but just in case, here is a little reading to understand what these things are. Here is a site which describes what is needed for #3 which might help. http://www.experiment-resources.com/null-hypothesis.html

I think number three is the most important, because it means, that in order to consider the “Anthropogenic CO2 causes Global Warming” hypothesis as a better hypothesis over a null hypothesis (such as “The climate naturally changes anyway”) one has to explain how and why all the previous warmings occurred (At least three in historical times).

Now check out my blog and then see if you can find any academic papers that explain why the planet has heated up before, even though there was zero anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere.

If you or anyone else can address these short comings in the “official” science, then I would consider joining the UCS. You see, I respond to facts not political hype from interested minorities.

I think the only thing that stood out from your lengthy comment is your nasty sign-off. I don’t even know you yet you’ve already decided to slap me verbally? You could have made a choice not to respond at all since you were feeling all nasty or ivy league like. If i could i would forward your info to UCS  … their website is ucsusa.org … The article while not informative to you is one in which will at least bring about a dialogue and yes, i definitely am an interested minority …I am, quite sure you meant that in a bad way. I however will assume you were sitting on your high horse while writing such a clever response. I get a lot of articles, newsletters and membership requests from interesting sources on things that have an impact on me or my family so i post them so that others might have some information and some i happen to love and some are just shit…. both get posted if the topic is in the current News cycle. I don’t like being patronized but i get it.  i receive info from gore and ucs; if you have information you want posted i will but this long response does nothing for me personally good bad or ugly because it’s just your personal opinion.

It’s Friday and while that in itself is a good thing, watching and hearing President Obama in VA today was an even greater thing to experience and definitely consistent with what he has always felt about helping the Middle Class which, is to provide a hand up not a hand out. However, this concept is completely contrary to what we hear from most if not all those right of center or the extremist Teapublicans who believe government is too big but only when they do not need it for themselves. The idea that members of the Republican Congress felt completely comfortable stating they would not attend, that the President’s speech did not rise to a joint speech in Congress, of laughing during his American Jobs Act speech left me with no doubt that Republicans are not qualified or grown-up enough to govern our great Nation. I have to admit it was beyond sad to hear grown adults disrespect the office of President let alone President Obama and last i remember we are not in a parliamentary setting where they are free to scream and or yell. It was offensive and disturbing but it gave Americans the full picture of just who the GOPers are, who they side with and what they intend to continue. That, is holding the Middle Class hostage while demanding less regulation, less tax burden on the job creators, and if given the chance, will cut slash and burn Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid or any other social service program designed to give a hand up not a hand out. I guess the idea of giving a hand up to the middle class or the poor is a cliché only a Teapublican could laugh at. How do you feel as an American about the reckless, hypocrisy ridden, unfazed, greedy sounding, self-interested ideologically moved attitudes by the Teapublican Political Party who seem quite driven and who probably have signed up to take our Democracy and Country literally over the edge of disaster to gain control of the White House.

Today, is the last day of August and while the last week has been crisis filled the last 24months has seen record numbers of hurricanes, a lot of flooding displacing numerous Americans with most if not all of us wondering why those on the right don’t believe in climate change or maybe just leaving the bs out for awhile. I think the weather and the damage we have seen should not be used another tool to hold middle America hostage for more spending cuts. It is not the time as this is the beginning of hurricane season covering the entire eastcoast is just or should be a reminder of things that should be reassessed the old taken out while rules regulations and infrastructure be moved into the 21st Century. President Obama spoke to Americans about the Surface Transportation Bill which is due to be reauthorized or expire by the end of September that provides an extension of Federal-aid highway, highway safety, motor carrier safety, transit, and other programs  …though given how Teapublicans have been acting this legislation might need “We the People” to push in the current environment. The Political climate is getting heated as the sometimes-ugly rhetoric regarding race religion and gender preferences seem to be the big stick Republicans are wielding at those with truly weak minds who seem unwilling to remember what being an American is all about. It makes you wonder  what is taught at home or at the schools of right leaning people these days given the things we hear happening at the Middle and High School level . It really seems like an overt dogma of exclusion of or violence toward anyone who appears different, which is exactly what so-called adults politicians are behaving and acting out on all levels. My hope that any sane person would think this attitude is not what Americans are all about by any stretch of the imagination. We are a country of immigrants with various types of families that are blended but apparently to Teapublicans and their “family values platform, family is something only they and their religion can support. If you listen to Teapublicans, the meaning of family and marriage is limited and definitely make sense only to them. I do not understand the attitude and do not subscribe to it because it is un-American. While TV is steering clear of the whole “birther” and “other” label once forced upon President Obama and his family. The Right Wing radio airwaves continue to push for tribalism and would have us all believing President Obama among other things is not trust worthy, what with his funny name and family history being proof he just is not the one to vote for the White House. In some circles President Obama has been bashed for not being Black enough or on the other extreme … too Black to represent all Americans which is so offensive in and of itself.  Well, while i do not like opinion news at all it does seem to be all that is offered up these days even with a 24/7 news cycle. I prefer news without a side jab at President Obama and gossip is great …that is if i tuned into a show that does gossip for a living; don’t say you’re a news station then spend time on some celebrities personal life say a couple of strange things and ask viewers to respond. It is a waste of time when there is real news to be reported on stations that call themselves News

lets leave the gossip to gossip shows unless it’s connected to politics but then again one person’s gossip is another’s news … ugh

Sunday, 8/28/2011 a dedication for the new MLK JR memorial statue with President Obama giving a keynote speech as well as some others was to have taken place but this last week was one that the east coast will never forget. On Tuesday 23 August, the east coast experienced a 6.0 earthquake, which shook up the entire coast for a few days with Governors requesting help from the government, particularly FEMA and on Friday, Hurricane Irene, fresh from beating down on Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Florida barreled her way up the East Coast causing massive floods and several deaths.  Though if you were listening, Rep.eric cantor was so bold to say that all monies requested must or will be offset with spending cuts, which sounded as if he himself would be the decider as to which states would get help. It was definitely offensive let alone just one of many signs of how he and his group would govern if given the chance. Fortunately, President Obama performed as a President should and all those who need government help; even those Teapublicans as well as Ron Paul’s State who still rails against FEMA and government in general.

In contrast … On June 14, 2010, I found out that Glenn Beck announced that he was holding a rally on 8/28/2010, which is the day most if not all Americans remember the MLK JR “I have a dream” speech. I had to make an effort; to plead a call to action… many folks who listened to Bill Press heard this announcement and they were offended as well. It would be nice if a peaceful counter rally on that same day to honor and recognize MLK JR’s I have a dream speech. The idea of beck holding a rally on that day is just wrong, it is offensive, and it just seems like it is a moment beck has decided to exploit. Glenn beck must be upset about the fact that a Black man gave a speech so admired all over the world and at a spot as sacred as it is does not deserve to be used by him. To invite or have speakers such as Sarah Palin or Marcus luttrell who seems to be against immigrants in general; to top this very offensive thing off Jo dee messina will be there; a performer some of us use to respect, who knew the music, is nowhere related to the political leaning of this performer. If you go to beck’s website the event, slated as a non-political, non-partisan event advocating restoring honor, which given what we all know about him is definitely a conflict of word use. I believe we all have the right to freedom of speech and rally it just seems like a sham, an exploitation and a platform for the extreme right disguised as a charity event for our service people -he says to honor our heroes, our heritage and our future… by making a tax-deductible donations. I still wonder how much really went to charity, how much did Sarah Palin, jo dee messina, marcus luttrell get out of this and how much did beck really make. This year beck took his clown show to Israel and while dozens protested his small group of like minded folks on 8/25/2011, fortunately he kept quiet on 8/28/2011.

Beck Wildly Inflates Attendance At His Israel Rally

Yesterday, former Fox News host Glenn Beck held his much-hyped and highly controversial “Restoring Courage” rally at the foot of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Today, he whined about the skimpy coverage of the event by the media. (Hint: If a pillar of fire had appeared or if the Zechariah prophecy had been fulfilled as Beck had predicted might happen, there might have been more coverage.)

Since no prophecies appear to have been fulfilled, Beck began inflating the numbers of attendees at his rally. According to a blog post from yesterday by Yahoo’s Joe Pompeo, Beck’s spokesman said that 4,700 people attended the rally. (1,700 attendees at the spot where Beck was speaking and an additional 3,000 at a remote location where Beck’s event was broadcast live.) But by the time Beck went on the air today, Beck was suggesting that “five to seven” thousand people showed up at the remote location. He was immediately corrected by one of his aides who said there were “5,000 seats set up, and at last count, we had about 8,000 people that showed up, standing room only.” Beck then said there were “10,000 people just in these two locations alone.”

And lo and behold, in the space of one day, event attendees grew from 4,700 by Beck’s own spokesman‘s reported count, to five to seven thousand, to 10,000.

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Beck has grossly exaggerated attendance figures for his rallies. In the wake of his 8-28 “Restoring Honor” rally, Beck said he heard that the crowd had been “between 300,000 and 500,000.” But according to an outside firm hired by CBS News, the only independent and semi-official estimate of the crowd was 87,000. Beck has also made the absurd claim that the 9-12 protests that he created and hyped were the “largest march on Washington [D.C.] ever,” and said that a “really conservative” crowd estimate for that march was “500,000.” Later, his estimated number for the 9-12 crowd grew to 750,000 or a million. In fact, one unofficial D.C. fire department estimate placed the number between 60,000 and 75,000 participants.

Maybe miracles do happen at Beck’s events: The crowd size doubles (or sometimes grows by a factor of ten) without any explanation.
