Mayalú Txucarramãe – © Cacá MeirellesDear Carmen,Last week we reminded you just how proud we are of our courageous partner in the Brazilian Amazon, Kayapó warrior Mayalú Txucarramãe. We told you the story of how Mayalú has become a powerful leader in the fight to stop the destructive Belo Monte dam. Her home, community, family, culture, and very survival depend on it.

Mayalu is your partner, too. Your support of Amazon Watch directly empowers Mayalú and the campaign to stop the Belo Monte dam and rainforest destruction. The fight to protect her home is ultimately our fight for a better world and future on this planet that we share.

Mayalú’s fight is not just about stopping one of the largest dam complexes in the world – it’s about turning the tide against destructive development projects across the Amazon and acknowledging that we have a responsibility that goes beyond ourselves when it comes to issues that affect the global climate.

How we address issues that contribute to the climate crisis will define us in the future. How firmly we stand with those on the front lines of today’s climate battle, women like Mayalú, will decide our collective fate. It will be part of our legacy when we consider what we actually did to better the world.

Support Mayalú and her community by donating today to stop destructive dams in the Amazon and to protect our planetary life support systems. Please give and give generously so that Amazon Watch can continue its work with Mayalú and others fighting for a better future – for the Amazon, for the planet.

If not you, then who?

The Climate Reality Project

The Climate Reality Project

Deniers claim there’s no scientific consensus on climate change. They claim man-made global warming is a hoax. They blame volcanoes and sunspots. Deniers are the roadblocks to real progress — and we need to do something about it.

So today, we’re asking for your help.

Congress is back in session this month. And some of these very decision makers heading back to Washington this month are still in denial.

If it’s anything like we’ve been seeing lately, it’s likely that any legislative progress will continue to be stalled … especially progress towards a solution that puts a price on carbon pollution.

Look, you and I know the scientific consensus on climate change is abundantly clear — in fact — 97 percent of all climate scientists will tell you human activities are causing our atmosphere to heat up. And this fundamental change in our climate is having devastating effects across the globe.

That’s why we’re asking you to help set the record straight with a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Last month, you helped us put the heat on climate change deniers by debunking myths through Reality Drop and social media. Today, we hope you’ll take your dedication to a different media — your local paper.

Writing a letter to the editor is quick, easy, and best of all, extremely effective. We’ve even got you started with some base language. Feel free to use as much or as little as you want. Click here for step-by-step instructions and a bank of denier quotes to help drive your point home.

Climate change is happening. You know it. We know it. Get your message into your local newspaper, and even more people will know the truth about climate change.

Thanks for your continued activism,

It’s Us Alright

The Climate Reality Project Can you feel the heat? We sure can.

And while temperatures rise, big corporations and Congress continue to claim, “It’s not us — it’s natural,” when you and I both know they’re repeating lies coming straight from Big Oil and Big Coal.

“It’s not us” is another abominable myth about climate change… and we need your voice to help destroy this myth today. Let’s crank up the heat on climate change deniers.

Deniers love to say: “Okay, climate change is happening. But it has natural causes, and humans have nothing to do with it.”

Just ask 97 percent of climate scientists: Man-made carbon pollution is the cause of global warming. The consensus is overwhelming.

Yet somehow, deniers just keep rehashing these same old myths and the news media keeps repeating them — confusing the public when people like you and I know the truth is cut and dry.

That’s why this week, in response to Organizing for Action‘s efforts to keep the climate change conversation top-of-mind, we’re putting the #HeatOnDenial by making anti-science deniers sweat. Together with our friends at Organizing For America, we can raise the temperature of this hot topic.

So take a moment, head to our Reality Drop application, and help destroy the “It’s Not Us” myth –– and together we’ll be one step closer to solving the climate crisis.

Thanks for your continued dedication,
The Climate Reality Team

P.S. Never used Reality Drop? Here’s the scoop on how to start dropping truth on climate myths in the media.

Sustainable energy

The Climate Reality Project

If a doctor said your loved one required major surgery to survive, but it would be very difficult to complete, would you take “No, it’s too hard” for an answer?

We didn’t think so. So when climate deniers claim, “Shifting over to clean energy would be too hard and shut down the economy,” we here at The Climate Reality Project politely beg to differ.

Maybe you do too.

We put a man on the moon. We eradicated smallpox. We built a computer that can fit in your pocket. These accomplishments — and so many more — were possible because groups of like-minded, passionate individuals (much like you) saw the future they wanted and worked hard to make it happen.

Big Oil and Big Coal spread big lies claiming that changing to clean energy would cause economic turmoil and finding sustainable solutions to the climate crisis “is too hard.”

But that’s just not the case. We’re already seeing that shifting to clean energy is a whole lot easier than they think. In 2012, renewables accounted for slightly over half of new electric generating capacity worldwide. In the U.S, we’re installing a new solar power system every four minutes. Meanwhile, global investment in clean energy topped out at $244 billion worldwide. In 2009, global investment was just $178 billion — so in just three years that’s a 37 percent climb, and nearly ten times the investment made in 2004.

As we reach the end of August, we need your help to keep the pressure on climate deniers by using Reality Drop. We’re less than 1,000 away from our end-of-month goal of sharing the truth 50,000 times on key articles across the net.

We know the transition to clean energy won’t happen overnight. But it will happen and you can bet it will be sooner rather than later.

With your help, we can get there. Thank you for all your hard work,
The Climate Reality Team

P.S. Help us share the truth about climate change 50,000 times on RealityDrop.org and change the climate conversation today. Don’t forget to use the #HeatOnDenial hash tag on Twitter!

Building the climate movement

During the past couple of weeks, over a billion people in 192 countries took action for Earth Day, and many people like you helped build an impressive digital mosaic capturing The Face of Climate Change.

People organized rallies, demonstrations, clean-ups, tree plantings, educational events, andmore to protect their local environment and to raise the profile of the most pressing environmental issue of our time:climate change. Countless others made personal commitments to live more sustainably.

In fact, The Face of Climate Change has received such a strong response that we’re going to continue the campaign!

Your actions and stories have the power to inspire the world and are essential to building this new climate movement; keep them coming! They’ll serve as an interactive and personalized petition to world leaders as Earth Day Network and our partners push for strong international and domestic climate policies.

The Face of Climate Change again proves that a lot of little actions add up to something big. Join the movement – and bring your friends! Together, we’ll make a difference in 2013 and beyond.
