* Acting Quickly to Create a Better Health Care System for Americans

This afternoon, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius spoke at the National Press Club to discuss how health reform will increase health security. She explained that the Affordable Care Act will give Americans more control over their health care by reining in unfair insurance practices. The law includes the largest middle class tax cut for health care in American history and provides the biggest expansion in health care coverage since Medicare.

Secretary Sebelius explained that the new law “is not a magic pill that will cure all the problems in our health care system.” She described the reforms as “puzzle pieces,” with each reform being implemented after the next to strengthen the health insurance system without disrupting it.

She said that they have already began acting to enforce the law by working with states to create high risk pool programs that will help uninsured Americans with pre-existing conditions get coverage. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has been restructured to prepare for the new responsibilities under health insurance reform, and later this week, HHS will open new Medicaid options to cover low-income adults.

Secretary Sebelius also pointed out that scam artists have been trying to capitalize on the new health care law by setting up 1-800 numbers and trying to sell fraudulent insurance policies. Today, Secretary Sebelius sent letters to State Commissioners and Attorney Generals to investigate and prosecute these scams.

Secretary Sebelius said that HHS will make sure that Americans can receive the full benefits of the new law by providing Americans with access to information, eliminating waste in order to make every dollar count, and noted that “we will never lose sight of why we pursued this legislation in the first place, fought so hard for it, and are celebrating it as such a historic accomplishment.” She explained that they are beginning to implement the reforms of the health care legislation effectively, stating that “Our work didn’t end when President Obama put down his pen. In some ways, it’s just begun.”

Tuesday news …&cspan

Tuesday, moves us forward from a wild wicked weekend that brought Easter, snow in the midwest and northwest, floods and receding water, more weeks of winter, strange comments from Karzai about joining the Taliban, strange behavior from Republicans, specifically, RNC chair Steele but they all seem to be acting more right wing than usual along with the tea party group,  deaths in mines from not just the US but in China, children and suicide seem to be on the rise oh the list of things  going on the first week of April are many. The 7.2 earthquake shook and shook a lot of folks in Texi/Cali; 2 people died in Mexico and many more after shocks since… my relatives were shaken but nothing  substantial.  We must not forget Haiti, Chile and now the US may be in store for some earth changes and preparing more and more.

The Vatican needs to prepare for Americans to push for more transparency as well as accept their responsibility for what happened over the last 40years of child abuse; sex happens with consenting adults no one under 18 is considered an adult and even then the Church is wrong to hide cover up and refuse to accept they either have obstructed and are putting their group ahead of the children or could it be that this group of people actually practice this behavior; it’s accepted and people in the church now will say whatever to hide the truth.

The chambers of Congress are silent until April 12th and with that comes what could have been coverage of townhalls and or guest spots for Democrats to sell our new law of the land and beat back the noise of Republicans with the truth but … well, there are still a few more days left.  The president called out 2right wing nutters in an interview and cable went nuts trying to figure out if it was appropriate? Why are Politicians so willing to put their Political life before getting the Peoples work done.

Speaking of getting the peoples work done? People need to call Republicans Coburn and Kyl to force them into having compassion… to think about families who are affected by Yes to  blocking unemployment; it’s not just the potential hobo the partying person who loves living on what ? enough to pay for rent? the lapse affects those who need help with flood damages is hurting our economy in a big way and when checks don’t show up in Republican voter mailboxes of people out of work maybe politicians will feel it in the voting booth 2010/2012.

News on Tuesday … and education reform bill

Today, the President will sign the reconciliation part of HCR and the education reform bill into law; I am hopeful that when people actually read both bills instead of listening to the noise that Republicans are hoping will block out the facts… like, this Bill could possibly help more than 32million people because HCR is also a Jobs Bill; it’s not talked about but the number of people needed to handle all the people who will now be eligible for coverage will increase our labour force.  As far as the education reform bill ? What person would think saving money is a bad thing; the money from the educational reform bill will be re-invested and more Pell grants given instead of becoming bank merit raises.   I don’ t know anyone sane who would vote or be against that, who would be against students being covered by their parents insurance until 26, who in their right mind doesn’t want what our Congress is already getting? the plans might be a little different but ask any former state, city or federal worker and you will see that HCR is in fact similar.  There is also news that repeal/replace is just another smokescreen Republicans plan to feed Americans.  Repeal/Replace can not be done without a majority vote in Congress to help bring it down; people need to do more fact-checking for themselves before assuming leaders in the Republican Party truly are telling the … truth. Our Congress is still on Easter Break, though cable coverage of right-wing behavior toward representatives and their reactions have been in the news quite often.  Is it just me or does it appear as if cable prefers to cover not only the negative side of Democrats but it also has been questioning just exactly what is the meaning behind the protests, the nasty signs, and word or spitting and name-calling instead of doing what might seem like a common-sense approach … question is what is the common sense approach.

Weekend News &reviews … cspan.org

It’s Sunday and while re-broadcasts of  the President and Nancy Pelosi signing the HCR into law is exciting …reports are that our President made a surprise visit to Afghanistan, his first;updates when needed.  This week was great even the low points were exciting and eye-opening because it gave me new energy…we have a fight on our watch ladies and gentlemen … to push the US to be the best it can be, to be more self-sufficient, to be number ONE again.  We have a chance to move into the 21st Century and with that we can also be compassionate enough to help other Americans;  to pitch in a little more so that others can begin to do better, to finally demand no force financial regulations; oh the list of good things are so long it’s just incredible.  The last administration left such a mess the clean-up could last years. This week, we saw President Obama act with resolve, he pushed back, stayed the course…with nancy pelosi’s/harry reid’s help  passed HCR, showed tough love to Israel, russia/US agreement to reduce nuclear arms, use a well-used procedure to get his cabinet filled because Republicans have decided to break him if and or make sure he cannot govern the way a President should, possibly create more sanctions for Iran to think about and took the student loan process away from the banks and guess what? we will save 60billion dollars to re-invest in … Americans people!!! We the People… good …no that’s huge

It’s Saturday …Some not all Democrats have definitely shown Americans exactly who are the adults in both Chambers of Congress.  The world didn’t end, no one saw anything different happen with the exception of the New Law of the Land that will help everyone not just poor people.  If implemented correctly, smoothly HCR will cover over 30mil people and create  an obvious up-tick in employees; it will also move us into the 21st Century and that is about time. The fight is not over  as concerned voters, we need to push movement toward climate, immigration, education and more
