TGIF &some News …

The Political climate in the country is sort of reflecting the current weather, which has been violent at times, frequently changing agitated by furious thunder or uproar and commotion… just like what is happening from everyone involved in the Paul Ryan Plan, which includes ending Medicare, as we know it

“The tempest in my mind/Doth from my senses takes all feeling” (Shakespeare).

As Senate Democrats go back to work for the People Republicans continue to act recklessly and create mayhem on both the State and Federal levels. The facts are becoming clear which Political Party will be considered on the right side of history by all the efforts they have shown trying to vote for and implement legislation that would change the way immigration, insurance, wall street, climate change, and jobs which were mishandled and or neglected by the last guy and his republican crew in office.

The current issue mishandled by this crew of Republicans in Congress, among others is the Paul Ryan Budget Plan. The Republican Party pushed it, backed it as if it was the best thing in the world though the particulars were not clear. Fortunately, a Democratic member of Congress challenged the content, structure and announced that the plan would not only make the Bush Bonus dollars permanent, had a health care mandate , a voucher system, probably end Medicaid as well. I don’t know about you but the lack of detail in this Budget Plan given by Republicans before and during their break just proved the Ryan Plan is was not what they say it is. In an attempt to hide or assume no one would actually read “the Plan” which was portrayed by Ryan and his crew as a matter of little or no importance like a tempest in a teapot. It is obvious in reality this plan has created a great big disturbance and or uproar in the Democratic Party but Republican constituents are feeling the betrayal and it is not just Seniors. The plan, aside from the other ill-advised requirements or stipulations listed on this plan is set to affect those 55 and under once considered no big thing quickly moved into something else.

The saying that keeps coming to mind is “a tempest in a teapot”, which is how I felt Republicans were acting. Now, well now that tempest has definitely turned into a storm and has raged out of control. The tempestuous relationship between the Democratic Party and Republicans has promoted violent behaviour by some, emotional responses by all in a time when both sides of the aisle need to come together to create and pass laws. Instead, the party of no has done whatever can do to ruin the President which is being done off the backs of the Middle Class let alone snatch whatever help is left for the working class and the poor. I have news for Republicans and it is that even your constituents are beginning to see the light though i won’t hold my breath i am expecting and demanding that the Democratic Party stand up an out for We the People and help continue that path toward the 21st Century by supporting Barack Obama efforts for a 2nd term.

Vote Tomorrow: Tell Your Representative to Vote No on Outrageous Abortion Bill

Outrageous, dangerous, and unconscionable. That’s the bill that the House of Representatives will vote on tomorrow.

We must stop them — Call 888-907-9762 TODAY and tell your Representative to protect women’s health and vote NO on H.R. 3.

We’ve been telling you for months how the House leadership continues to harm women’s health by restricting women’s access to reproductive health services. Tomorrow they’re going even further by bringing up H.R. 3, a bill that places dangerous restrictions on insurance coverage for abortion, to the floor for a vote.

H.R. 3 endangers women’s health by stripping insurance coverage of abortion care from millions of women. It’s so outrageous that it’s worth repeating: they want to punish private health decisions by imposing tax increases on millions of individuals and small businesses with insurance plans that cover abortion.

Call your Representative TODAY to tell her or him to vote NO on this dangerous and outrageous bill.

I know you’ve already sent letters and called your Members of Congress to tell them you support women’s access to reproductive health care — but let me explain why we need you to pick up the phone again.

H.R. 3 harms women’s health in many ways, but here are some of its most outrageous provisions:Raises taxes and increases costs on many individuals and small businesses with insurance plans that cover abortion, which could force individuals and employers to drop abortion coverage from their health insurance plans. It could even shut down the entire private market for insurance coverage that includes abortion.

Unbelievably, H.R. 3 contains no exceptions for circumstances where a woman faces even serious health consequences, even if continuing the pregnancy could cause permanent damage to her heart, lungs, or kidneys.

Call 888-907-9762 TODAY and tell your Representative to oppose this harmful bill and protect women’s health.

Thank you for helping us protect women’s health and access to reproductive health services. We will continue to work tirelessly to defeat this bill.

Sincerely,

Judy Waxman

Take Action: Celebrate the Paycheck Fairness Act on Equal Pay Day!

Happy Equal Pay Day! I know what you’re thinking: it’s hard to feel too happy when we face the facts about the wage gap these days. Did you realize that the average woman loses $10,849 a year due to the wage gap?

But we do have something worth celebrating this Equal Pay Day. The Paycheck Fairness Act is being introduced in both Houses of Congress today!

Ask your Members of Congress to co-sponsor the Paycheck Fairness Act in honor of Equal Pay Day!

In the last session of Congress, we worked hard to get the Paycheck Fairness Act passed in the House and this important bill fell just a few votes short of moving forward in the Senate. We couldn’t have done it without people like you who helped tell Congress that Women Are Not WorthLess. Now we need your help again!

Take action and ask your Member of Congress to co-sponsor the Paycheck Fairness Act now!

On Equal Pay Day, we recognize the day that the average woman’s wages finally catch up to those of her male counterparts in 2010. With the Paycheck Fairness Act, we can start to close that wage gap and Stop Discounting Women and their families. Will you take action today?

Thank you for all your support and, again, happy Equal Pay Day!

Sincerely

Fatima Goss Graves

Vice President for Education and Employment

P.S. We’ve put together some great new resources in honor of Equal Pay Day. Be sure to check out our new factsheets on pay secrecy, the “factors other than sex” loophole in the Equal Pay Act and how the Paycheck Fairness Act resolves it, an update on the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the wage gap’s implications for women in this economy. Paycheck Fairness Returning to Congress: Act Now

Next Tuesday is Equal Pay Day, the day when an average woman’s wages will catch up to those of her male counterparts in 2010. That’s right — the wage gap equates to over THREE MONTHS’ worth of women’s work. A steep discount, and it’s outrageous!

Fortunately, some of our allies in Congress think that the wage gap is as outrageous as we do. So in honor of Equal Pay Day, they are reintroducing the Paycheck Fairness Act on Tuesday!

Ask your Members of Congress to co-sponsor the Paycheck Fairness Act today!  www.nwlc.org/fairpay

Women Are Not WorthLess

Ask your Member of Congress to co-sponsor the Paycheck Fairness Act and Stop Discounting Women today!

As you probably remember, and with the help of thousands of activists like you, the Paycheck Fairness Act passed the House and fell just a few votes short of moving forward in the Senate in the last Congress. It was close — the closest we’ve ever been.

Take action — ask your Members of Congress to co-sponsor the Paycheck Fairness Act now!

Let’s make sure that this year, on Equal Pay Day, Congress knows that Women are Not WorthLess! Thank you for all of your support in the past, and let’s get geared up to see Paycheck Fairness through to the end in the 112th Congress!

Sincerely,

Alarming Attacks on Women’s Health

They voted to repeal the health care law. They even tried to deny abortions to some rape survivors. You won’t believe what House Speaker John Boehner and his colleagues have up their sleeve now.

We told you already about how Speaker Boehner and the rest of the House Republican leadership released a fiscal plan for the remainder of 2011 that puts women and families in danger. Now they’re trying to amend this plan to continue to attack the health care law by cutting funding for its implementation. Plus, they’re attacking women’s access to contraception.

We’ve got to stop them. Tell your Member of Congress to oppose harmful amendments that put women’s health at risk.    Call 202-224-3121

What exactly is on the line? Let me just give you a few examples of what some who “represent” us think is okay to propose:

“Defund” the health care law, which would undermine many important provisions like access to health coverage for people who have pre-existing conditions;

Deny millions of women access to family planning by eliminating funding for the Title X family planning programs and making it harder for states to give these services to low-income women;

Ban all federal funds for all Planned Parenthood health centers which would deny millions of women access to their trusted health care provider; and

Maintain a controversial Bush-era regulation that allows providers to refuse a wide range of health care services, information, counseling, and referrals.

And sadly, this list just scratches the surface.

You have helped us stop the House leadership from denying abortions to some rape survivors and prevented the Senate from repealing the health care law. Now we need your help again. Help us stop the attack on women’s health.

Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Judy Waxman

Vice President for Health and Reproductive Rights
