a message from Speaker Pelosi …

Happy New Year! And as we prepare to ring in the new year, I wanted to reach out and thank you for your commitment to our country and your dedication to making change a reality for millions of our fellow Americans.

But our work is far from done.

Shadowy special interest front groups are already up on radio and television with shameful attack ads aimed at reversing the progress we’ve made, and they’re hoping grassroots Democrats like you will stay on the sidelines until New Year’s. If Democrats fall behind in these final critical days, we’ll have to spend months playing catch-up while the opponents of progress ring in 2011 with a big head start on their repeal agenda.

December 31st marks the final FEC deadline of the year. That means my friends at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) have just 5 days to show the media, the pundits, and our opponents that Democrats are ready to stand up to the powerful special interests intent on rolling back the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve.

Carmen, can you chip in $10 to help House Democrats raise the $250,000 they need before the year-end FEC deadline on December 31st? This deadline is so important that your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a group of generous Democrats.

Because of the hard work of grassroots Democrats like you, we passed historic health care reform, restored common sense regulation to Wall Street, helped ensure equal pay for equal work, and made a college education affordable for millions of young Americans.

Now, the same special interests that fought us every step of the way are intent on rolling back the progress we’ve made. Your action before Friday’s deadline can help ensure that Democrats have what it takes to fight back and stand strong for the interests of hardworking American families.

Contribute to the DCCC before the critical FEC fundraising deadline at midnight on December 31st. Your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a group of generous Democrats.

In the year ahead, we will make critical decisions about the challenges we face that will shape the lives of our children and grandchildren for decades to come. I will not stop fighting to protect the progress we have made.

I hope I can count on you to support the DCCC with a generous contribution and to fulfill our responsibility to make tomorrow better than today and guarantee the American dream is alive and well in this country we love.

Together we’re going to make this happen.

Best Wishes,
Nancy

P.S. It’s your unshakable commitment to our shared vision for America’s future that is the lifeblood of our people-powered movement. Please stand with me and support our congressional colleagues at this decisive moment. Thank you. Contribute before the midnight December 31st FEC deadline and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

Our next fight: DREAM Act now

Pass the DREAM Act
We’ve waited long enough
We always knew that our fight didn’t begin – or end – on Election Day.
Two weeks ago, we stood up all over the country for what we believed in. We showed Congress where we stood, and how powerful we are. Now it’s time to remind them of what we want.

Before the election, Harry Reid promised that he would put the DREAM Act up for a vote before the end of the year. Nancy Pelosi wants that vote to happen. It’s up to us to show Reid and the rest of the Senate that our movement isn’t going to wait.

Click here to send a fax to leaders in Congress:

We have waited long enough to reform our broken immigration system. Pass the DREAM Act during the lame duck session this year.

Passing the DREAM Act would be a clear sign from Congress that they’re willing to work with us moving forward. It’s time to stand together and show the policymakers in DC what we’re made of.

Thank you,

BREAKING: The “bipartisan” deficit reduction commission — appointed by President Obama and led by millionaires — just made their ideas public. And they are ridiculous.

They recommend to Congress cutting Social Security benefits and raising the retirement age. (Shockingly, the commission of millionaires didn’t focus on raising taxes on the wealthy.)

We need to respond fast to make sure this goes nowhere. House Progressive Caucus Chair Raul Grijalva (who we just helped re-elect) has boldly organized over 100 of his colleagues to fight this proposal.

We need to show they have grassroots support. Can you join over 31,000 others in being a “citizen signer” of Grijalva’s letter? Click here.

Then, share with others — including on Facebook or Twitter.

We’ll inform Grijalva of our progress, so he can work with us to inform the media of this grassroots support.

Just today, Talking Points Memo reported on a poll we commissioned asking voters their preference on how to reduce the deficit:

  • 43% say raise taxes on the wealthy
  • 22% say cut the huge military budget
  • Only 12% say cut Social Security

Yet this “bipartisan” commission of millionaires recommends the exact opposite? Nancy Pelosi calls it “simply unacceptable.”

Help House progressives declare loudly: Cutting Social Security is simply not an option. Click to be a “citizen signer” of Grijalva’s letter — then share this email with others.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.

RE: Recount Alerts: Eight Outstanding

Midnight tonight marks a critical milestone in our unwavering campaign to move America forward.

That’s the deadline for sending urgently needed financial resources to the field to support eight Democrats in races that remain too close to call. The most important thing you can do right now to ensure we win these battleground races is help us raise the remaining $43,627 we need by tonight’s Voter Protection deadline.

In the early morning hours after Election Day, we sent staff and legal teams to help these members locked in battles but they need urgent resources to keep up the fight.

Contribute $5, $10 or more before Midnight Tonight to our Voter Protection efforts to help keep up the fight.

Stand Up for Democrats

I know I’ve asked a lot of you already. But what happens in these eight campaigns has enormous implications for the future. Having more Democrats in Congress will not only give us a head start on returning to the Majority in 2012, but it will also affect our ability to oppose the Republicans‘ radical plans for rolling back health care reform, dismantling the Department of Education and privatizing Social Security and Medicare.

Contribute $5, $10 or more before Midnight Tonight to our Voter Protection efforts to help keep up the fight.

Time and time again, you have refused to have your voices silenced by the special interests. Now we must reaffirm our commitment to ensure every vote is counted fairly and accurately.

Thank you,

Nancy Pelosi
Speaker of the House

P.S. There are only hours left before tonight’s Midnight deadline to send out money to our voter protection efforts. Please stand with me to make sure Republicans don’t repeat the questionable tactics they used in Florida in 2000. We need these eight Democrats in Congress. Contribute before Midnight Tonight to our Voter Protection efforts to help keep up the fight.

a message from Speaker Pelosi

Over the last four years, the Democratic House Majority that you made possible took courageous action on behalf of America’s middle class to create jobs and save the country from the worst economic catastrophe since the Great Depression.

Despite the outcome of last night’s elections, please know that your grassroots support still made a difference.

There are many courageous Democrats who won close races last night because of your remarkable support.

The outcome of this election does not diminish the work we have done together for the American people. With so much at stake for our country, we must all strive to find common ground to support the middle class, create jobs, protect Social Security, reduce the deficit and move our nation forward. Today, all Democrats should hold their heads high.

Your support and dedication has made a positive difference in the lives of all Americans.

For that, I cannot thank you enough.
