Last week, President Obama called on all Americans to speak to one another “in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.” I welcome the president’s call for healing. We have a great need for this in America today.

Instead of working on JOBS and the Economy, the new House Leadership is pushing proposals that will take Health Care away from women.

The VOTE is Wednesday: Please tell your Representative to stand up for women’s health and vote AGAINST repealing health care reform.

Unfortunately, even with the president’s hopeful words still ringing in our ears, the House leadership is moving forward with an agenda that will harm American women. Tomorrow, they will bring up a vote to repeal the health care law which is already expanding health care coverage for the women of our country.

Tomorrow’s vote is just the beginning. If repealing the health care law were not enough, the new House leaders are pursuing a ban on private health insurance plans that include abortion coverage — a ban that is even more extreme than the Stupak abortion ban we defeated last year.

Members of Congress need to hear from us now, before they take health care benefits away from women across the country.

The nation thoroughly debated health care reform for two full years, and with the steadfast support of people from across the country — including millions of Planned Parenthood supporters like you — the final law marked a historic victory for women’s health.

Right now in your town, there are women who were uninsured and who now have health insurance because of the health care law, there are women who have better access to contraception and cancer screenings. In fact, the law expands all women’s ability to get affordable cancer screenings and other preventive services. It also holds the promise of giving women access to prescription birth control without co-pays. These are important contributions to making life better for women in every community. But House leaders want to take all of that away.

We can’t let them. Tell your representative to stand up for women’s health and vote against the repeal of health care reform.

It is unconscionable for anti-choice politicians who were elected on a promise to fix the economy to use their position to deny women access to reproductive health care, including abortion. But that’s exactly what they are trying to do.

The wish list of anti-choice activists is a mile long, and their allies on Capitol Hill are going to do all they can to satisfy their demands. That means relentlessly chipping away at a women’s right to choose. It means reversing all the progress we’ve made in recent years. It means defunding Planned Parenthood, and undermining women’s health at every turn.

If they win this fight to repeal health care reform, they’ll only be emboldened to push their agenda further. We have to stop them now — and remain vigilant in the weeks and months to come.

Please, take action today — and tell your friends, your family, and everyone you know who cares about women’s health to join us as we continue to stand up for women’s health each and every day.

Stop this extreme anti-choice bill

Tell Congress to stop restricting the reproductive rights of low-income women.

A woman shouldn’t lose her ability to decide if it’s a good time to bring a child into the world just because she is poor – but it’s been happening in the United States for decades.

Unless we speak out, the law that makes this injustice possible could become permanent.

For the past 34 years, the Hyde Amendment has made it extremely difficult for poor and low-income women on Medicaid to finance abortion services and severely limited their right to reproductive healthcare. It has been used to ban the federal government from spending money on abortion with very few exceptions.

The result? More than a million American women have been denied the ability to make their own decisions about bringing a child into the world in the context of their own circumstances and those of their families.

And now, a bill called the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” is picking up steam in Congress with over 170 co-sponsors. It goes to a new extreme, and seeks to make Hyde permanent while making it even harder for women to find abortion coverage in the private sector.

This is a direct assault on the fundamental rights of poor women and their families. Please write your Members of Congress and tell them to oppose the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.”

The Hyde Amendment imposes severe financial hardship on poor women. The struggle to raise funds forces many women to delay obtaining services and have later abortions. They might have to forgo basic necessities for their families, or may be forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term.

Reproductive rights include a woman’s right to make fundamental decisions about her life and family, to access the reproductive health services necessary to protect her health, and to decide whether and when to have children. By restricting access to abortion, the Hyde Amendment violates these fundamental human rights for poor and low-income women in the United States.

Please urge your elected officials in Washington to stand up for the rights of poor and low-income women and reject the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.” We cannot let the Hyde Amendment’s restrictions become permanent law.

Stand Up Against Blanket Abortion Coverage Prohibition

Tell Secretary Sebelius not to undermine women’s reproductive health in the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plans.

Remember how angry women got when we were told we couldn’t use our own private dollars to obtain coverage of abortion care? Well it’s back. The Administration decided — without justification in law or policy — to ban abortion coverage in the newly created Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plans.

It is still bad policy and your voice is needed.

Tell Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius how this harmful restriction undermines women’s access to reproductive health care now. Submit your comments today.

If adopted, this ban would prevent women with serious pre-existing medical conditions — like cancer or diabetes — from getting the abortion coverage they need to protect their health. And it will not even allow women the ability to pay for such coverage with their own private premium dollars.

Comments are due this Tuesday, September 28, so take action and tell Secretary Sebelius to stand up for the health of these vulnerable women and to reject this dangerous policy once and for all.
