Just moments ago, President Obama made history by boldly stating that gay and lesbian Americans deserve full marriage equality.

In saying so, he reinforced what most Americans believe – LGBT people should be fully and equally part of the fabric of our society. Our families deserve nothing less than the equal respect and recognition that comes through marriage.

President Obama’s time in office has shown that our nation can move beyond its shameful history of discrimination and injustice.

I hope you’ll join me in sending President Obama a heartfelt thank-you note right now.

Thanks to President Obama’s leadership, millions of young Americans have seen that their futures will not be limited by what makes them different.

And now, in supporting marriage equality, he’s extended a message of hope to a generation of young LGBT Americans, helping them understand that they too can be who they are and flourish as part of the American community.

His words also remind gay and lesbian families everywhere that they are not alone or unheard as they struggle – like their neighbors – to afford healthcare and college for their kids, pay their taxes, and plan for retirement.

The burden of discrimination will one day be no more, in part thanks to the President’s leadership at this very moment.

Protect Yellowstone from PSE’s coal plant!

Yellowstone National park is a national treasure, home to grizzly bears and some of the last herds of free-roaming bison. Every year, over 3 million people visit to see these animals, to watch Old Faithful blow its top, and to view the sunset over Yellowstone Falls.¹

Unfortunately, dirty coal pollution is ruining the view. Haze from a nearby coal-fired plant makes it hard to enjoy these sunsets, or take in the majesty of the roaming bison herds.

Right now, the EPA is taking comments on a plan to cut nearby coal pollution, but they need your support. Tell the EPA to protect Yellowstone National Park from dirty coal pollution today.

Yellowstone is as special to Americans as baseball and apple pie. However, you may not know that Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is the single biggest owner of the coal plant in Montana threatening the park.

Let’s show Big Coal that Washingtonians don’t support importing coal-fired electricty that is threatening one of our country’s national treasures by sending 2,000 comments to the EPA. Send your comment now!

Yellowstone was America’s first National Park — founded in 1872. We need to make sure it stays as pristine now, as it was then. As a Washingtonian, your comments will help move our state away from dirty coal and ensure our kids and grand kids experience the park the way it was intended — clean, clear, and unspoiled.

Move Washington beyond coal and make sure the next generation can experience Old Faithful and Yellowstone Falls without looking through toxic air. Urge the EPA to protect Yellowstone National Park today.

Washington State … Make sure Rep. McDermott doesn’t vote for these cuts.

Your Representative’s vote this week will impact the future of programs essential to both preventing diabetes and improving the health of people with diabetes and all Americans.

Take action now to protect vital public health and prevention programs!

Last week, you took action to protect the Prevention and Public Health Fund, which includes the initial funding for the critical National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP). The NDPP will save both lives and money only if it is expanded to communities around the country. However, the Prevention Fund is still being threatened. Members of the House of Representatives will vote again this week on whether to fully repeal this vital fund, gutting efforts to improve our nation’s health!

The bill under consideration also repeals key provisions and funding established as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and weakens Medicaid eligibility, programs needed to protect people with diabetes and improve their access to affordable healthcare. In addition to cuts in funding for state insurance exchanges, the bill repeals portions of ACA that make health care more affordable for low- and moderate- income families. Further, it repeals the state requirement to uphold their end of the bargain when it comes to Medicaid, which would allow states to roll back eligibility standards and create barriers to coverage for millions of people with diabetes.

We need to make sure diabetes programs and prevention efforts don’t get slashed. Tell your legislators RIGHT NOW to oppose the budget reconciliation legislation!

Take this chance to make your voice heard and tell your legislators to oppose any efforts to eliminate funding for these vital programs!

	Ask your mother, grandmother, aunt, or another loved one this Mother’s Day about the challenges she had accessing birth control. Then, share her story or yours with us!

What challenges did I face accessing birth control when I was younger? My doctor told me taking the Pill could possibly kill me — apparently thinking this additional “fact” would help me make a more informed medical decision.
I’m still alive — so I guess he was wrong. And that doctor was not alone in putting up barriers for women trying to access reproductive health care.
TELL US: Have you ever asked your mom, aunt, grandmother, or another loved one in your life what challenges she had gaining access to birth control? We want to hear the stories!
It’s been nearly fifty years since the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Connecticut v Griswold striking down state bans on birth control. Since then, contraception has become so central to women’s lives that 98 percent of us use it at some point during our reproductive years. Yet, politicians still re-litigate access to affordable contraception and other women’s health care needs.
The stories of the past prepare us for the fights of the future! Help us collect stories to remind our daughters and granddaughters about the fights we have won — help them fight the challenges that still lie ahead. Ask your mom her story about the challenges of accessible birth control or share your own story with us.
As mothers, grandmothers, daughters, aunts, and those that love them, let’s work together to get the message across to our leaders once and for all — our health is NOT up for debate™.
