Our small Progressive Radio Seattle Team is expanding with new people bringing new ideas and options to the table.

For starters, the Team decided on a name change: We are now Progressive Radio Northwest (PRNW). We’ve heard from enthusiastic progressive radio listeners from every corner of the region and wanted our name to reflect the scope and intensity of the public commitment to bring progressive talk BACK to free public airwaves and beyond.

Here are some activities coming up where you can help spread the word about PRNW: (and have some fun):

· Hempfest (http://www.hempfest.org/) is this weekend and it would be great to have a team of progressive radio enthusiasts on hand to pass out some oversized postcards we’ve created headlined, “Don’t let progressive radio go up in smoke!” We need someone to coordinate the effort and folks to hand out the cards on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Let us know your preference. Respond to the progressiveradionorthwest email below with “Hempfest” in the subject line if you can participate.

· Northwest Progressive Institute Tenth Anniversary Picnic, next Thursday, August 22.

Celebrate NPI’s first decade as you enjoy games, music and some serious picnic eats. King County Executive Dow Constantine and Port Commissioner Courtney Gregoire are scheduled to speak. You do not need to bring your own food, but bring lawn chairs or blankets or whatever you’d like to be comfortable. Thanks to all who already signed up to volunteer at the PRNW table – we’ll be handing out information about progressive radio.

In just 12 hours, we’re closing the books on our first major fundraising deadline since the end of the legislative session — and I’d love to hear from you to make sure we reach our $10,000 goal.

Our work doesn’t stop when the campaign is over. The grassroots community and momentum we built during my campaign for governor were critical components in our successful efforts to expand Medicaid, increase education funding, and defend against the attacks on critical services for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Our opponents will not give up and we have to be ready.

It’s clear from the Republican-controlled State Senate budget proposals they expected my grassroots supporters, like you, to just stop working as soon as the campaign was over.

But together, we proved they were wrong — by standing up, speaking out, and holding the line when they tried to drag our state backward.

Now we’re facing another challenge. July 31 at midnight is our first fundraising deadline since the legislative session ended. We need to reach our $10,000 July fundraising goal to make sure we can keep fighting to close unnecessary tax loopholes, create jobs, and fully fund public education.

Will you contribute $5, $10, or more before the deadline to keep our grassroots movement strong?

Our opponents are watching to see if you and I have what it takes to keep standing up and fighting on the critical issues facing our state.

And make no mistake about it: We have work to do.

This year, Senate Republicans failed to close unnecessary tax loopholes and create a long-term funding solution for our public schools. They stopped efforts to bring forth bipartisan legislation like the Dream Act and the Reproductive Parity Act.

And they failed to bring to a vote and pass a transportation package to keep people and goods flowing across our state.

That just means we have to keep fighting — harder than ever — to deliver on the promise I made to wake up every morning laser-focused on creating jobs and strengthening the economy.

Together we can keep up the fight, and together we can win it, but I need you to stand with me now.

A Better Bargain …

Hello everybody —

The basic bargain of this country says that if you work hard, you can get ahead — you can build a secure life for your family, and know that your kids will do even better someday.

But for more than a decade, that bargain has frayed, and a devastating recession made it worse.

Over the past four and a half years, America has fought its way back, laying a new foundation for more durable economic growth. But many of the challenges that faced the middle class before the recession remain. And Washington has taken its eye off the ball.

Too many people in this town are focused on scoring political points or fanning phony scandals instead of finding ways to help grow our economy, create jobs, or roll back a 30-year trend of rising inequality.

It’s time for that to stop. It’s time for all of us to focus on our top priority as a country, and that’s reigniting the engine of our prosperity: a rising, thriving middle class.

That’s what I just said while speaking at Knox College, back home in Illinois, where I kicked off a series of speeches on what truly matters to the middle class.

If building America from the middle out is an idea you share, I need you to stand with me. Add your voice to mine.

This has been my North Star for as long as I’ve been in office, and it’s what will shape the time that I have left in the White House.

In the weeks ahead, in towns across the country, I’ll be talking about my ideas for building on the cornerstones of middle-class security: Good jobs with good wages. An education that prepares our children and our workers for a new economy. A home to call your own. Affordable health care when you get sick. A secure retirement even if you’re not rich. A better bargain for the middle class, and for all who are striving to join it.

This is the debate we need to have. And you can join me right now.

Background Checks : 350K Signatures needed ~~ The Other Washington

We’re hitting the streets of Washington to collect 350,000 signatures — that’s 5% of Washington’s total population — to put criminal background checks before voters in November.

This won’t be easy. We can only succeed if everyone pitches in. We need your help to not only to sign the petition yourself, but to sign up your friends and family too.

Can we count on you to add your name to our petition, and sign up four others? Click here to request your petition form today!

Unfortunately, because of certain state restrictions, we have to mail you the form instead of having you just download it. (On the plus side, you don’t need to worry about your printer being out of toner!)

Once you sign up for a petition form, you’ll receive it in the mail in four to five business days. Collect a few signatures, and mail the form back to us. Even if you only collect one signature, that one signature will bring us one step closer to our goal.
