“by the time I feed my family, I have maybe $400,000 left over.” -John Fleming

Try not to burst into tears when you read this:

Tea Party Republican Congressman John Fleming would have a rough go of it under President Obama’s new plan to make millionaires pay their fair share. In fact, he told MSNBC yesterday — and these are his words — “by the time I feed my family, I have maybe $400,000 left over.”

Must be tough. Let’s make his life tougher.

If committed Democrats in Seattle and across the country chip in $4 before our big reporting deadline to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on September 30th, we’ll have the grassroots strength to support President Obama’s plan and kick out-of-touch Republicans like John Fleming out of Congress.

Contribute $4 or more right now to defeat out-of-touch Tea Party Republicans and show your support for President Obama’s plan to put middle class jobs before tax breaks for multi-millionaires and Big Oil companies. House Democrats will match your gift dollar-for-dollar.

As comical as Tea Party millionaire John Fleming’s comments are, there are too many Americans out there facing real struggles to feed their families right now. Maybe you know one. Maybe you’re in one.

September 30th will be the first FEC fundraising deadline since the President introduced his American Jobs Act to put people back to work, protect middle-class tax cuts in this tough time, and ensure that millionaires and Big Oil companies are paying their fair share.

As President Obama put it yesterday, “This is not class warfare. It’s math.” It’s unfair to ask seniors to give up the Medicare benefits they have earned while multi-millionaires pay taxes at lower rates than secretaries.

The world will be watching our fundraising totals on September 30th to determine whether Democrats are united behind President Obama’s plan. We must have a powerful showing.

Charlotte In 2012

Dear Friend,

Two weeks ago, over a thousand people gathered at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC to celebrate the Democratic National Convention Kick-off.

The energy was electric as we shared the excitement of being part of history in the making.  DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz summed it up best when she said,

This convention is about Americans coming together to commit ourselves and our country to a path that creates more opportunity. The success of this convention will be determined by the participation of you, the American people. This convention’s success will be based on engaging the American spirit and involving people who want to put their shoulder to the wheel and change the country for the better.

Now is the time that you can seize the momentum of that day by visiting our website and checking out the official 2012 convention merchandise store.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Thank you for signing up and thank you for being a part of this historic convention.  As we progress towards September 2012, I’ll be sending more updates and contests so you can stay informed.   www.store.charlottein2012.com

Are you connected to rainforest destruction? …Ashley Schaeffer, Rainforest Action Network

Until recently, very few consumers had even heard of palm oil—much less understood that the expansion of palm oil plantations is one of the biggest causes of rainforest destruction in the world today.

Most people still have no idea that rainforest destroying palm oil is in roughly 50% of packaged goods sold on grocery store shelves.

Please share the infographic below to spread awareness about the problem with palm oil and help build public demand for sustainable options.

Awareness is the first crucial step to building necessary pressure on corporations like Cargill that will transform how business gets done in the palm oil industry and the fate of Indonesia’s rainforests.

Share RAN’s new palm oil infographic with everyone you know.   Email it, blog it, tweet it, Facebook it!

Thank you for empowering the people in your life with the knowledge they need to protect the world’s forests.

For the forests,

Republicans say NO NO NO

Let me sum up this week for you:

President Obama: JOBS, JOBS, JOBS.
The Republican Party: NO, NO, NO.

President Obama presented his plan. The only plan Republicans have put forward is to say no to President Obama and yes to big corporations calling the shots, undermining the social safety net we pay for with our taxes, and, if you get sick: you’re on your own. In short: their plan is an assault on our values.

Their vision is dangerous – and we’re in danger of it becoming reality if Republicans flip just FOUR Senate seats in 2012. We can’t let that happen.

That’s why the DSCC needs your help to raise $585,000 before Sept. 30 so we can make sure Democrats don’t lose races that we can win. We literally can’t afford to fall short.

Please give $5, $10 or whatever you can give to the DSCC right now. The DSCC has only 10 days to raise $585,000 and fight the GOP’s assault on our values.

Rick Perry calls Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” and Mitt Romney compares it to a criminal enterprise. And now one GOP Congressman is complaining that President Obama’s plan would force him to live on just $400,000 a year.  Once again the GOP just doesn’t understand the challenges Americans are facing today.

2012 will decide whether we focus on creating jobs, like Democrats want, or protecting millionaires and big corporations, like Republicans demand. We can win.  But we need your help.

Please give $5, $10 or whatever you can give to the DSCC right now. The DSCC has only 10 days to raise $585,000 and fight the GOP’s assault on our values.

There are many reasons we’re Democrats. But perhaps one of the most important is this: We know that a strong middle class makes our country stronger.  Thanks for joining me to fight for what we believe in.

Sincerely,

Karen Finney
