** Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC Recalls Broccoli Sprouts Because of Possible Health Risk.  Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC of Moyie Springs, IDAHO is recalling 215 cases (6/4oz bags per case) of Broccoli Sprouts, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  Our company has ceased the production and distribution of broccoli sprouts since 9/04/2026 and is currently conducting a root cause investigation. We were notified that our broccoli sprouts product has been related to a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Bovismorbifican. The outbreak includes 22 cases as of 9/9/2026.

** Made Fresh Salads, Inc. Recalls Ready-to-Eat Deli-Style Salads and Cream Cheese Because of Possible Health Risk. Made Fresh Salads Inc. of Bay Shore, NY is recalling all Ready to Eat Deli Style Salads and cream cheese, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The various salads were distributed in Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and New York City by direct delivery to retail stores and distributors. Products are distributed in 30 lb. and 5 lb. white plastic tubs with a Made Fresh Salads label or a Northside Label and a half-size aluminum pan.

The salads being recalled are as follows: expiration dates from September 3, 2026 through September 18, 2026 printed on the bottom left of the label. Consumers who have purchased Made Fresh Salads are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. ** BMC Medical Co., Ltd. Recalls Luna G3 APAP (Model LG3600) with Firmware G3-2.00.76 Due to Firmware Defect. Beijing, China, retrospectively reported to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a recall of 20,160 Luna G3 APAP (Model LG3600) devices distributed in the United States due to firmware defect. This corrective action was not reported to customers. On August 19, 2026, the FDA classified this retrospective recall as a Class I recall (FDA Recall Number: Z-2979-2026).

BMC has identified that firmware version, G3-2.00.76 installed on these Luna G3 APAP (Model LG3600) devices contained a firmware defect. BMC conducted a firmware upgrade of these devices to version G3-2.00.77 for 20,160 affected devices at the U.S. importer’s warehouse from October through December 2024. After reporting the retrospective recall, BMC discovered that potentially up to 196 units did not receive the upgrade and identified that these devices may still contain firmware version G3-2.00.76.

If the affected device(s) operates simultaneously under high pressure, high respiratory rate, and high peak flow an “Error” message on the device display is triggered, followed by automatic shutdown resulting in a failure to deliver therapy. ** Clorox Puerto Rico Recalls 6 Million Scented Mistolin and Lestoil Multi-Purpose Cleaners Due to Risk of Exposure to Bacteria

Hazard:

The recalled products may contain bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is an environmental organism found widely in soil and water. People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment. The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.

Remedy:

Consumers should stop using the recalled cleaners immediately. 1939 – The First Food Stamp Program

The idea for the first Food Stamp Program (FSP) is credited to various people, most notably Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace and the program’s first Administrator Milo Perkins. The program operated by permitting people on relief to buy orange stamps equal to their normal food expenditures. For every $1 worth of orange stamps purchased, 50 cents worth of blue stamps were received. Orange stamps could be used to buy any food.  Blue stamps could only be used to buy food determined by the Department to be surplus.

The first recipient was Mabel McFiggin of Rochester, New York on May 16, 1939.  The first retailer to redeem the stamps was Joseph Mutolo, and the first retailer caught violating the program was Nick Salzano in October 1939. Over the course of nearly 4 years, the first FSP reached approximately 20 million people at one time or another in nearly half of the counties in the United States, peak participation was 4 million, at a total cost of $262 million. The program ended in the spring of 1943 “since the conditions that brought the program into being–unmarketable food surpluses and widespread unemployment–no longer existed.”

1961 through 1964 – Pilot Food Stamp Program

The 18 years between the end of the first FSP and the inception of the next were filled with studies, reports, and legislative proposals.

Prominent Senators actively associated with attempts to enact an FSP during this period were: Aiken, La Follette, Humphrey, Kefauver, and Symington. From 1954 on, Congresswoman Leonor K. Sullivan strove unceasingly to pass food stamp program legislation. On September 21, 1959, P.L. 86-341 authorized the Secretary of Agriculture to operate a food stamp system through January 31, 1962.

The Eisenhower Administration never used the authority. However, in fulfillment of a campaign promise made in West Virginia, President Kennedy’s first Executive Order called for expanded food distribution and, on February 2, 1961, he announced the initiation of Food Stamp pilot programs. The pilot programs would retain the requirement that the food stamps be purchased, but eliminated the concept of special stamps for surplus foods. A Department spokesman indicated the emphasis would be on increasing the consumption of perishables. Isabelle Kelley, who was part of the four-person team that designed the new program, became its first director and the first woman in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to head an action program.

Mr. and Mrs. Alderson Muncy of Paynesville, West Virginia, were the first food stamp recipients on May 29, 1961. They purchased $95 in food stamps for their 15-person household. In the first food stamp transaction, they bought a can of pork and beans at Henderson’s Supermarket. By January 1964, the pilot programs had expanded from eight areas to 43 (40 counties, Detroit, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh) in 22 states with 380,000 participants.
