The National Bioneers Conference is the original whole-systems forum of innovation and collaboration for social, cultural and environmental resilience. BioCon speakers have included Bill McKibben, Jane Goodall, Marina Silva, Vandana Shiva, Michael Pollan, Gloria Steinem and Paul Hawken, among many other luminaries. The conference also prides itself on introducing audiences to some of the most innovative voices yet to be discovered. This year, visionaries and change-makers – including Danny Glover, Tom Goldtooth, Annie Leonard and our very own Atossa Soltani – will propose, debate and initiate solutions to global bio-cultural and socio-ecological issues. BioCon talks and activities reflect the event’s theme of Turning Vision Into Action. It opens with Nalini Nadkarni, known as the “Queen of the Forest Canopy” for her extensive scientific studies of unique rainforest biology across four continents. Nalini will share what complex rainforest biodiversity can teach us about human dynamics. Atossa and I will join amazing women leaders and friends including Anna Lappé, Lynn Twist and Osprey Orielle Lake in panels at the conference entitled, Women as Democracy Builders and Mobilizing Women for Climate Solutions. We are also honored to once again help facilitate the participation of indigenous partners from the Amazon who will share a Call from the Amazon and join indigenous allies in discussions in the acclaimed Bioneers Indigenous Forum, which features exciting workshops and discussions on major issues, struggles, and successes in Indian Country and in indigenous communities globally. ACA is a job creator

The Affordable HealthCare Law resolves health care and jobs issues.
If you believe in moving into the 21st Century, believe in health care being accessible to all , if you believe it is a right not a privilege or that the overhaul is long overdue; then you are on the right side of history. Please do not believe how some are portraying ACA, as a law for the poor. I do not believe that parents with kids in college would say they are poor nor rich and these days most families have two or more in college at the same time. Therefore, having children covered until 26 is a relief to some families
The fact is over 32mil people will now have access to an improved health care system that will need more doctors, PA, and those great nurses who we usually see when we feel bad. Think about it, what does it take to run a Hospital? Our current workforce cannot possibly handle that many new customers and will need to hire more folks from the so-called bottom up such as grounds, parking lots, security, maintenance, janitors to gardeners to receptionists, and more. I have no idea how many people go to the doctor each day, but if you have an appointment during the workday, your child is in school, goes to daycare or you take them with you … most people do not; bam more jobs needed.
I cannot begin to list the impact of 32million more people added to the health care system, but the proof of it being a jobs bill is obvious.

Let’s take a look at what this ruling means for the middle class:
- Insurance companies no longer have unchecked power to cancel your policy, deny you coverage, or charge women more than men.
- Soon, no American will ever again be denied care or charged more due to a pre-existing condition, like cancer or even asthma.
- Preventive care will still be covered free of charge by insurance companies–including mammograms for women and wellness visits for seniors.
- By August, millions of Americans will receive a rebate because their insurance company spent too much of their premium on administrative costs or CEO bonuses.
- 5.3 million seniors will continue to save $600 a year on their prescription drugs.
- Efforts to strengthen and protect Medicare by cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse will remain in place.
- 6.6 million young adults will still be able to stay on their family’s plan until they’re 26.
A major impact of the Court’s decision is the 129 million people with pre-existing conditions and millions of middle class families who will have the security of affordable health coverage.

The Senate stands in adjournment until 2:00pm on Monday, September 23, 2013.
Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will be in a period of morning business until 4:00pm with Senators permitted to speak therein for up to 10 minutes each.
During Thursday’s session of the Senate, an agreement was reached that when H.J.Res.59, the continuing resolution, is received by the Senate from the House, it will be placed on the Calendar. Senator Reid is likely to make a motion to proceed to the joint resolution on Monday.
As previously announced, there will be no roll call votes on Monday. The next roll call vote will be at approximately 11:45am on Tuesday on confirmation of Executive Calendar #203, the nomination of Todd M. Hughes to be United States Circuit Judge for the Federal Circuit.
After the Senate convened, Senator Reid moved to proceed to Calendar #195, H.J.Res.59, the Continuing Resolution. By consent, Senators are permitted to speak for up to 10 minutes each until 6:00pm. There will be no roll call votes today. The next vote will occur at approximately 11:45am tomorrow, Tuesday, September 24. That vote will be on confirmation of Executive Calendar #203, the nomination of Todd M. Hughes, of the District of Columbia, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Federal Circuit.
Senator Reid then asked unanimous consent to take up and confirm several nominations, which are listed below. Senator Cruz objected.

If you haven’t already heard, a swath of whole foods stores in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Maine sold real chicken labeled as vegan chicken in their prepared food bar for two days this week before anyone noticed an error.I don’t think it needs to be reiterated how obviously not ok this is, but I think there might be a few things the dozens of news articles are missing.
