The social issues debate re-ignited on Capitol Hill today when senators killed a proposal to throw out President Obama’s contraception mandate. Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh was thrust into the center of the debate after he called the woman who was denied the right to speak on the controversial all-male conception panel at a hearing last month a “slut” on his show Wednesday. The issue heated up more today when Limbaugh took his comments even further. For more on this story, click here: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/rush-limbaugh-sandra-fluke-a-slu…

| Good afternoon–This week, thousands of folks have shared how $40 less in every paycheck would affect them if Congress didn’t extend the payroll tax cut for 160 million Americans. And it worked. This afternoon, lawmakers got this done. The President will sign that bill into law next week, and we’ve already invited some of the folks who shared their stories to come to the White Housewhen he does. The past few days have been a constant reminder of how incredible it can be when people from all walks of life join together to speak out. On Tuesday, we sat down with another group of Americans who added their voices to the debate, and they recorded a message just for you. It’s a powerful thing to watch.
There will be other fights in the weeks and the months ahead when the kind of engagement they’re talking about in this video could make all the difference. So check it out, then pass it along to anyone who is skeptical that real people can’t have an impact: http://www.whitehouse.gov/40dollars/stories Thanks, David |

| By putting in place the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards, President Obama made a substantial leap forward for our nation’s health and environment. Not every leader would have done this for our country, since Big Coallobbyists and corporate special interests make great efforts keep us dependent on their hazardous products and services.Give President Obama a huge THANK YOU for putting our people first and standing strong against mercury pollution.» The other current presidential candidates, for example, want to take away our environmental protection and set back the progress we’ve made.Newt Gingrich wants to “maximize oil, gas, and clean coal production.” Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have already received hundreds of thousands of dollars from Big Coal companies which visibly alters their stance on energy. And Ron Paul has stated that he would eliminate the EPA altogether.
It takes a strong leader to make such a bold environmental decision. Take a moment to let President Obama know that we appreciate his actions in standing up to Big Coal for our future.»
