whacky Wednesday &some News …

President and Mrs. Obama are hosting the president from China in a State visit and a dinner scheduled for tonight though some are not happy but if we want to move forward this might be the way to do it and maybe use this as a template for dealing with Cuba.

Word of the day is all about the act of Observation …maybe for the next few weeks, months and years

In November I asked —at what point will the various cable, radio and main stream stations do the right thing and stick to the truth instead of skewing it to keep their ratings high, to tell me you did not agree that partisan behavior on what is supposed to be “the place to get real news” seems to be siding with the extreme right. It was definitely offensive on so many levels and hard not to be outraged by but now these same stations, well except the obvious ones seemed to have moved to the center on most News topics but not enough to sedate this viewer and voter. I gotta say the more recent News source: “Politico” has been a new right of center challenge to me as a reader and or tv viewer, though i am sure there are more moving to the right as the 2012 elections gain more interest.  The overt bad behavior by current and or new Republican members of Congress who are supposed to represent all of the people in their respective States has gotten even worse, have either acted or stated for all to hear and see that special interest groups can kiss their butts. The only solution that seems rational going forward is putting democrats back in power in 2012.

Observe …stop and think about all the things that the Obama admin as well as our Democratic led Congress managed to achieve despite the Republican Tea Party. Observe and analyze who what when and why things have not improved as some out there on the left want and then remind them that a President that goes too far left of center is not representing all Americans. The truth is …most people use to be moderate and expect the President to be not just moderate but bipartisan; people have got to realize he tried leaning left and while folks on the right said one thing and did another we all know this is going to be standard behavior no matter what but a President who leans too far left gets a shellacking…right. If you were watching it makes you wonder if taking a hard left is the only way to solve the gridlock. Then reality comes back and we have to remember the Democratic Party has a huge tent with various degrees of democratic ideology and while the Republican Tea Party is united no matter what their colleagues say or do Dems on the other hand fight each other to get legislation on the floor of the Senate debated let alone get a vote and move toward the 21st Century. We all know our ability to move forward is being held hostage by the Republican Tea Party until they ruin our barely recovering economy. I wonder what will happen if in fact we fall into a deep recession due to an insufficient amount of dollars and or voted down raising the debt ceiling. Just a reminder; Republicans are to blame for any lack of progress made thus far.

I have to say my Observation of “the Media” which seemingly is not just giving Republicans more airtime but is defending them in some cases and while it is obvious those folks know who is buttering their paychecks …the fair and balanced slogan when describing the news process has become a bad joke. I wonder many others have been watching and listening to political shows with well-educated people making comments about how much of a disaster the mid-term elections were for President Obama’s future. The fact is that Congress goes through change and this year is really no different than any other but the combination of the failure of the last guy, the deficit he left and finding out that Wall Street, Oil and the Banks as well as AIG made bets not only with the people’s money but against us as well – you would think some would understand that after years of corruption it might take a minute to make all the corrections given the fact that some of the parts needed to make the fix are not cooperating. I am no expert but people need to observe, compare and contrast their own lives to what happened and times that by a trillion and realize the correction will take a long time especially since folks on the right were able to downsize/block and or stall most of the financial fixes in the Senate for the last two years. The 60 vote rule and the filibuster definitely are not positive tools in the Senate thus the need to make sure our voices as Democratic voters are heard more often.

I do feel this is a pivotal moment and if we really want change folks we need to participate in the change when 53% voted for Senator Obama to be President Obama. We all need to understand why the process of change cannot only be done by the President; that Congress in both Chambers need to do the work of the People too and now after the midterms the House of Representatives is representing the Republican Tea Party, the Senate faces obstacles so, the only solution is getting truer Dems in both Chambers of Congress in 2012. I know that was such a simpleton statement right, had folks listened and voted left of center for the midterms elections- what if …sigh

President Obama is doing the best he can with what the last admin gave him and again it took a long time for all the dominos to fall and while there are those on the right who choose to provoke fear; lately that has turned into action by those feeling certain TV or radio personalities were giving them subliminal instructions to act against those who support the President or the Democratic Party.

It would be great if “the Media” would stop giving folks on the right passes when they make outrageous, racist, and often incendiary comments…we hear it from Fox News but now the new move from other cable stations taking a hard right has this viewer wondering where the money is coming from supporting the more extreme view on air. What we saw before and or during the midterm elections by so-called reporters or talking heads was the dance of News manipulation which is a sad representation of what real journalists, reporters and commentators use to be.

House Republicans Move to Cut Spending Levels

Updated 3 hr., 18 min. ago

U.S. House of Representatives (C-SPAN)The House Rules Committee will take up a resolution today aimed at reducing spending to 2008 levels for the remainder of fiscal 2011. The resolution directs House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) to cut around 20 percent of non-security, discretionary spending. The House may act on the resolution as soon as next week.

Earlier this month, the House of Representatives passed a Republican plan to cut Congress’ budget by 5 percent. The resolution, introduced by GOP Transition Team Chairman Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), will require House members to reduce their budget to 95 percent of their 2010 allowance. TGIF … &some News

Today the President will sign the Tax deal bill around 3:50pm ET so left coasters need to be alert. Congress has FY 2011, START, DADT on the calendar and hopefully the Dream Act will also get passed well before they all decide to cut out of DEC for Xmas.

Last night the tax deal passed in the House and the Senate. However, it was obvious that the tax deal was a tough vote for our dems in the House. The final vote was 277 for 148 against. I will admit that it was not the best; even the President said the bill had offensive pieces in the bill but the deal given the midterm vote was the best anyone could have gotten. I believe Congress in both Chambers would still be “negotiating” on the provisions, the amount and so many other things, which would have pushed it into January, so though it may not have been perfect i am happy for what our President pushed through in such a short time.

The big Omnibus bill was treated like a bipartisan effort, clearly as was said on the floor of Congress members on both sides of the aisle worked on it, yet after Sen. McCain got on the floor of Congress thanked the Tea Party for the intervention, laughed, and stated who won that on national tv. It is obvious our dems in Congress have yet to figure out the Republican Tea Party has no intention of being bipartisan even their own RNC chair Mr. Steele said that bipartisanship is overrated. The idea that the RTP truly are willing to be bipartisan let alone honest with good faith intentions has prove to be a joke. This latest move of got’cha was not only embarrassing it was sad to see Leader Reid face all dejected. It was good to see so many Senators come to the floor to make sure the public knew that this Omnibus bill was in fact indeed a bill that was bipartisan though the RTP clearly was portraying it yet another scam or something they felt pushed into by the Dems having had little to do with it. The notion that so much pork listed in the Omnibus bill is the fault of the Dems in the Senate definitely was quite absurd and embarrassing. It is however, proof that the RTP cannot be trusted as one of them stated there was a letter brought to them, they all decided to sign it, and the bill died. It was odd to see the fringe and or Tea Party aspect of the Republicans have so much power even off the floor of Congress though Sen. McCain made sure the public heard who intervened in this previously agreed to bill. I used to say i hope this or that move opens the eyes of Republican constituents but a lot were hoping the bill would be defeated and News stations are reporting that Tea Party members definitely making their voices heard thus defeating the Omnibus bill -last minute. I guess some folks are afraid of them because they certainly betrayed their agreement to Leader Reid and Senate Democrats.

Yesterday I was going to order Omaha Steaks but after hearing the correction by the CEO, I will never order from Omaha Steaks until they agree to stop using Fox as their advertising source. In fact, i ask for a boycott based on the correction and response by the CEO. I encourage everyone to take the time to leave a message on their website too… steakbytes.com

I just wanted to say how disappointed i was to hear the outcome. I was the one who called in to say that i just could not order @OmahaSteaks given the fact that your company had bought ad spots on his show with all the racial vitriol he throws out at the public. As far as free speech when it tells minorities they are not acceptable, dangerous and the enemy that reaches far beyond racial slurs discrimination and certainly freedom of speech. I take it that what you are saying is that Glenn Beck has the right to be a racist on National Television. I specifically said that Glenn Beck’s racial rants were my problem to one of your representatives from your company. I received a call back from an Omaha Steaks Representative stating they would be taking down the advertisement or that it would end around 12/20 and in doing so made me want to order but then i pulled back and said maybe i will wait until the ads disappear. I now feel after reading the correction from CEO Bruce Simon it is obvious his staff only gave partially accurate information. I say she intentionally kept information back. I appreciate the prompt correction but have now decided to take my business elsewhere to a company who believes in equality not the vitriol that comes from not just Glenn Beck but from the Fox News station.

Weekend rants …&some News

Sunday buzz Fall back y’all and we did. The President and Mrs. Obama are out of town so to speak. While here in the States we have to hear the continuous drone from the Republican Tea Party who think Americans want repeal HCR, Wall Street reform, cut Education by 20%, replace and eliminate social service programs that women, vets, older folks and the new poor use. If Republicans decide to go after these things instead of JOBS it would definitely be a recipe for trouble, likely force into a deeper recession and will be the reason they will become unemployed. The current rhetoric has absolutely nothing to do with JOBS or the Economy …If people are listening they have no intention of cutting spending unless it is on the backs of the Middle and Lower classes people …get that in your head!!! The RTP will be in control for about a minute and what we as Democrats need to remember is that we have to call Republicans out on every move they make to ruin the current President instead of focusing on Jobs. I have to say anyone with any common sense knows that the top 2% will not spend their tax cuts to create an environment so that people will be hired or create jobs and if they do it will be to outsource them for lower wages in China, Mexico etc. If you do not believe it, just tune into CNBC and hear the words coming from various CEO’s being trotted out on any given day by Kudlow and associates.

I hope everyone is asking their Republican member of Congress what exactly the top 2% did with the Bush giveaways because it could not have been on hiring and creating jobs or we would not be in or see the mess all around us. I feel that after twenty months of gridlock from the Republican Tea Party of No things are about to get heated within their own Family Values Platform party. Anyway –

Saturday ...It was great to see President and Mrs Obama get off the plane in India as well as hearing his great speech …it was early …great time to do laundry…coffee  -sad  Haiti just cannot get a break

The news  about the recent move by Griffin to suspend a valuable employee named Keith Oberlmann has not only grabbed the attention of at least 200 thousand people they all have  signed a bring back Keith petition that you can find on Facebook and or twitter. This man has among other things given the public a platform to truly help others with the free clinic spot he made available to his viewers. It was a rude awakening to see so many people needing healthcare while our Republican members of Congress probably with constituents in those lines object to HCR that they have for their own families. The free clinic and of course the news delivered only the way Keith did will be missed if he decides to leave. I will admit and say that if Keith’s contract states ALL employees must read and abide by the rules with those rules clearly listed in an obvious way applying to ALL employees then he broke the rules and should be reprimand but if msnbc is singling him out then something smells. I think Keith needs to decide what is important, his 950 thousand viewers all understand what pride is all about, so, if he chooses not to come back we will understand. I hope he knows that there are only a few News guys like him who  dems, libs and all those left of center feels is giving the adequate information we need, crave, maybe a pep talk as well as  great interviews with Politicians, entertainers etc that share our way of thinking. The fact that 950 thousand people choose to tune in to hear Keith O  he has made it possible for people donate to the free clinics Keith has brought great awareness to on his show because  we are in fact our brothers and sisters keepers. It is a fresh and great use of time instead doing a pledge show for politicians. I believe Keith and a few other News reporters have made it ok to help your fellow man even if they are American Muslims, Hispanic, Gay, Asian Straight, believe in freedom of religion and still be an American, want the right to choose, be Black or Latino because most democrats/libs have a different ideology than the RTP. This is not to say Keith O’s show is the end all be all but he is important to over 950thousand people. While most will continue to tune in for left of center News at least 175 thousand have signed a protest petition, a few have stopped their twitter msnbc follow or have decided to boycott msnbc because the reasons behind the  suspension seemed unfair . If the rumors surrounding the suspension turn out to be true it would seem a co-worker donated to Republican candidates and received no suspension at all. The first reports were that the other guy dealt with opinion News while Keith was a News reporter which seemed strange because he never asked for donations from anyone during the midterm campaigning. The notion that the other guy who is a Republican, an ex-member of Congress giving donations to fellow Republican Politicians as being acceptable while Keith who reports the News and as a private citizen donated to a Democrat is absurd and offensive. It is my hope that msnbc will see the error their ways and bring him back on given other employees have done so in the past without similar outcomes. The News can be subjective instead of objective to the point that we scream shout and sometimes throw stuff at it especially when the viewer knows the person sitting there reading off the prompter is being paid to lie, stir up trouble and in a lot of cases race bait. Again, I am willing to admit that Keith’s spot does not completely counter a whole freakin station like faux news but he has helped tamper the ugly nasty sometimes racist noise coming from the right on any channel. It is important to feed both sides of any issue, maybe deliver some real News with truth and facts splashed with some good ole fashioned humor as well.

Later in the day -I could not help but read the various comment boards about Keith O’s suspension and it appears as if those on the right responded with the most and usual hater remarks so i had to put my 2cents in as well… It seems like the group on here making comments are all viewers of Fox News… funny …putting the name Fox and News together is such a joke to me. I do not tune into fox very often but sometimes you just have to see what all the fuss is about, hear the ugly nasty words they say without flinching. I have to say I would never let my kids see that show because they teach fear and hate. The fact that fox is a far right of center activist cable station that allows their employees to seemingly spew hate, promote fear and if you are a person of color the comments seem just shy of outright racism and take the whole we are using our 1st amendment rights thing too far for me. The fact that Fox obviously donates thousands of dollars to candidate’s right of center is unseemly at best, no station should be too left or right of center in my opinion. Fox is the only station I know that promotes right of center opinion ideas or so-called news. It is offensive to watch them use their station to campaign for Republicans at all let alone for those that clearly have an extreme agenda. In addition, when these entertainers grab a story without fact checking it look into the camera and tell the viewer the President is going to India with 34 war ships, 3000 staffers so on and so forth it makes you wonder when someone will make them stop.

There were reports that Keith stated he would not be coming back -we will miss him.

Kilmeade addresses comments, claims he “misspoke”

Media Matters for America

Kilmeade “misspoke” about “all terrorists” being “Muslims” — twice

http://mediamatters.org/research/201010180007

After repeatedly claiming that “[n]ot all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims,” Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade “clarif[ied]” his comment and claimed that he “misspoke.” In fact, Kilmeade not only made the claim at least twice in a single day, but he also questioned whether “moderate Muslims” need to prove “you’re not one of them,” which is in line with his history of bigoted and anti-Muslim statements.

Kilmeade repeatedly falsely claimed “all terrorists are Muslims”

Kilmeade: “Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims.” On the October 15 edition of Fox News‘ Fox & Friends, Kilmeade defended Bill O’Reilly’s comments on the October 14 edition of ABC’s The View by claiming the show’s hosts “were outraged that somebody was saying there’s a reason — there was a certain group of people that attacked us on 9-11. It wasn’t just one person. It was one religion. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims.”

Later during his radio show, Kilmeade asserted that it’s a “fact” that “every terrorist is a Muslim.” On the October 15 edition of Fox News Radio’s Kilmeade & Friends, Kilmeade stated: “Not every Muslim is an extremist, a terrorist, but every terrorist is a Muslim. You can’t avoid that fact.” From Kilmeade & Friends:

KILMEADE: Muslim extremists, Al Qaeda, blew up those buildings — blew up the Khobar Towers, blew up the [U.S.S.] Cole, blew up the embassies, tried to blow up Times Square, tried to blow up the plane. The shoe bomber, the Times Square bomber, the underwear bomber — they have one thing in common. They are all extremists, and they are all Muslims.

Not every Muslim is an extremist, a terrorist, but every terrorist is a Muslim. You can’t avoid that fact. And that is ridiculous that we got to keep defining this — the people that equate Timothy McVeigh with the Al Qaeda terrorist organization, which is growing and a threat that exists.

Kilmeade also asked if Americans “have a right to look at moderate Muslims and say, ‘Show me you’re not one of them.’ ” On the October 15 edition of Kilmeade & Friends, Kilmeade said: “From what we’ve seen from the Khobar Towers to the Cole bombing to the embassy bombings to the Times Square, the shoe bomber, do you think Americans have a right to look at moderate Muslims and say, ‘Show me you’re not one of them.’ ”

Fox News VP says Kilmeade would “clarify” his comments on Monday. On October 15, The Huffington Post reported that Bill Shine, Fox News’ senior vice president of programming, said that Kilmeade would “clarify” his comments on Monday. From The Huffington Post:

Fox News SVP of Programming Bill Shine says Kilmeade will address the comments on Monday.

“Brian was talking about the events on ‘The View’ yesterday and was referring to the radical extremists who killed Americans on 9/11,” Shine told the Huffington Post. “Obviously, not all terrorists are Muslim and Brian will clarify this point on television and radio on Monday.”

Kilmeade addresses comments, claims he “misspoke”

Kilmeade: “I’m sorry about that, if I offended … or hurt anybody’s feelings. But that’s it.” On the October 18 edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade stated:

KILMEADE: Meanwhile, on the show on Friday, I was talking about Bill O’Reilly’s appearance on The View, and I said this: “Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims.” Well, I misspoke. I don’t believe all terrorists are Muslims. I’m sorry about that, if I offended or — offended or hurt anybody’s feelings. But that’s it. Now let’s go over to Stuart.

Kilmeade did not address the fact that he made the claim both on Fox & Friends and on his radio show, in which he stated it was simply a “fact” that “every terrorist is a Muslim.”

Kilmeade has a history of offensive and inflammatory comments regarding Islam and Muslims

Kilmeade: Muslims “have to understand” being profiled because of “the war that was declared on us.” On the November 10, 2009, edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade told Fox News contributor Laura Ingraham: “You get a chance to talk to a lot of Islamic experts, Muslim experts, and people who understand the Quran, and I asked him one time, off camera, I said, ‘How do you feel about the extra scrutiny, clearly, you’re getting at the airports?’ And he said, ‘I’m all for it, because I want to get home to my family, too.’ And that’s really got to be the attitude. So, if you’re Islamic, or you’re Muslim and you’re in the military, you have to understand … and that’s just the fact right now in the war that was declared on us.”

Kilmeade asks if “it’s time for the military to have special debriefings” of Muslims, because “I’ve got to know the guy next to me is not going to want to kill me.” Following the shooting at Fort Hood, Kilmeade asked on the November 6, 2009, edition of Fox & Friends: “Do you think it’s time for the military to have special debriefings of Muslim Army civilians, officers, anybody enlisted, because if I’m going to be deployed in a foxhole, if I’m going to be sticking in an outpost, I’ve got to know the guy next to me is not going to want to kill me.” Guest host Peter Johnson Jr. asked Fox News legal analyst Geraldo Rivera, “You won’t countenance special screenings for Muslim officers, will you? … Will you countenance that?”

Kilmeade: “[I]f you’re a 20- to 30-year-old Islamic male, even if you have no evil intentions, expect to be delayed. We have to profile.” On the January 4, 2009, edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade said: “[N]inety percent of these terrorists are men, Islamic men, between 20 and 30. Why are we pretending that all of us should get equal training [sic]? Shouldn’t we just tell — if you’re a 20- to 30-year-old Islamic male, even if you have no evil intentions, expect to be delayed. We have to — we have to profile.”

Kilmeade reacts to Bloomberg’s Park51 support with anti-Muslim rant. On the August 25 edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade played video of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s statement that “Islam did not attack the World Trade Center, Al Qaeda did. To implicate all of Islam for the actions of a few who twisted a great religion is unfair and un-American.” Kilmeade responded:

KILMEADE: That’s one way of looking at it, you could say just for a few. Those few have us bogged down really in two wars, one of which, I guess, is concluding. And then we have those few people in Yemen and those few people in Somalia and those few people that blew up in Madrid, and those few people that — those bus bombings in London. Besides those few, I don’t really see the problem.

Kilmeade asks if “Islamic community” is “gloating” by building Islamic community center near Ground Zero. On the May 26 edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade said: “Six-hundred feet from where World Tower One – World Trade Center One stood. Is this gloating on the part of the Islamic community?”

Kilmeade calls Islamic cultural center plans “an outrage” and accuses Muslims of “taunting” 9-11 victims. On the May 25 edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade said, “Let’s talk about what’s happening downtown, because this is an outrage and it gets worse,” referencing Park51. Kilmeade later claimed: “This is taunting. This is an absolute insult, especially to those 9-11 families. … And now across the street you’re going to have an Islamic learning center? If at the very least, it shows a crassness and callousness to the U.S.”

Kilmeade was also forced to apologize following statement that Swedes have “pure genes” because they don’t marry “other ethnics”

Kilmeade: Americans don’t have “pure genes” like Swedes because “we keep marrying other species and other ethnics.” On the July 8, 2009, edition of Fox & Friends, while discussing a study on the relationship between marriage an Alzheimer’s, Kilmeade opined that “we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and … the Swedes have pure genes, because they marry other Swedes. Because that’s the rule.”

Kilmeade later apologized for those comments. On the July 20, 2009, edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade apologized for his remarks, saying he had “made comments that were offensive to many people. That was not my intention, and looking back at those comments I realize they were inappropriate. For that I sincerely apologize.”
