When you give now, every $ will be matched by Democratic Senators

Republicans steamrolled into the House with empty promises of economic renewal. But instead they’ve chosen Big Oil over Medicare, health care companies over women’s rights, the rich over the middle class.

We’ve been able to stop them with our Democratic majority in the Senate. But if they capture just four of the 23 Democratic seats up for grabs in 2012, anything they dream up will sail through Congress while no progressive ideas survive.

Two years ago, we averted that nightmare scenario. We can do it again now, but only if Democrats pull together and rise up to make a difference. Please give whatever you can to the DSCC today and help them raise $683,000 by their crucial June 30 end-of-quarter deadline. Democratic senators will match every dollar you give, because falling short of this goal could mean the Senate slips from our grasp.

The GOP is playing politics with serious issues. One day they’re threatening to shut down the government, putting people out of work and delaying benefits seniors and veterans depend upon. The next, they’re willing to let the economy go into default while spending billions of tax dollars on Big Oil subsidies.

As they perform these political stunts, Republicans seem to have no problem turning a blind eye to the struggles of hardworking Americans, pressing forward with a reckless budget that so clearly hurts working families who struggle to survive from paycheck to paycheck.

So how can they possibly win? The GOP is a master of the old bait and switch. They did it in 2010, and they’ll surely try it in 2012. So it’s up to us to make sure they don’t get away with it.

Give now to the DSCC so we can fight for our Democratic majority in the Senate. Republicans will have 23 opportunities to take away four of our seats next year, so we’ve got to start working now to protect our senators who are up for re-election and support our great Democratic challengers.

There’s no question about it—the math is daunting. We’ve got 23 seats up for grabs; they’ve got only 10. All they need to do is grab four to win the Senate. But if we do everything we can right now, I know we can win.

                                Sincerely,

a message from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand …Exciting News

Something very exciting is happening in a special election in Western New York.

A new poll shows Democrat Kathy Hochul surging to a dead heat in the most Republican district in New York. Kathy’s momentum is no coincidence. This is a direct response to her Republican opponent vowing to support the GOP’s plan to end Medicare as we know it, while preserving tax breaks for millionaires.

A win by Kathy would be a shocking blow to the Republicans’ extremist agenda.

That’s why Speaker John Boehner is desperately raising money to fund attack ads against Kathy. With the election in just 13 days, we must raise $10,000 in grassroots support so Kathy has what it takes to fight back.

Kathy is a fighter for jobs and someone who will never back down when it comes to helping hardworking middle class families. We need her in the House more than ever so she can stand up to the special interests and stop the GOP’s extremist agenda.

But she’s up against not one, but two deep-pocketed conservatives, including a Tea Party candidate who will spend whatever it takes on attack ads to win. And you know the GOP shadow groups are right behind them.

With the media watching Kathy’s momentum, we need the strongest possible show of grassroots support on her behalf.

Republicans sense that this race is slipping away from them. They also know that a grassroots-powered Democratic victory would mean the beginning of the end for their extremist agenda.

With this election just 13 days away, it’s now a dead heat. We must act now to put Kathy over the top.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

P.S. This is a race that will come down to the wire. With the world watching,

It’s simply not right … a message from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand

Last year I helped lead the effort to overturn “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” and I’m thrilled that very soon, LGBT Americans will be able to serve openly in our armed forces. This is a big victory for equality, but there’s still so far we have yet to go.

I believe every American should be able to marry the person they love. Yet in 1996, the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (or DOMA) codified the discriminatory notion that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

DOMA denies same-sex couples the basic privileges enjoyed by straight couples, and prevents state-approved legal marriages from being recognized across the country.

This is wrong.

If we are to achieve full marriage equality for all, Congress must repeal DOMA now.

That’s why I’m proud to partner with Democracy for America to make sure the repeal of DOMA becomes a reality.

Recently, President Obama ordered the Justice Department to stop defending DOMA in federal court. This is a huge first step, but the fact is that as long as DOMA remains on the books it will continue to be enforced until Congress repeals it legislatively.

Tomorrow, I will join Senator Feinstein as we introduce DOMA repeal legislation in the U.S. Senate.

Can I count on you to join us on the frontlines of this fight?

Please sign here to join the fight for marriage equality by urging Congress to repeal this discriminatory and unconstitutional law. >> http://act.democracyforamerica.com/go/561?akid=577.1480546.tmfy-d&t=2

It’s simply not right that my husband and I should be able to enjoy rights and privileges that LGBT Americans are denied.

Thank you for everything you do to ensure marriage equality for all Americans,

a message from Nancy Pelosi …Extreme Assault on Women’s Health

House Republicans have begun the most radical restrictions on women’s health in our lifetimes.

Their extreme agenda would punish women and businesses by increasing their taxes if their health insurance covers the full range of reproductive health care. It would cut off funding for women’s health care clinics that offer reproductive health services. They are also refusing to drop their attempt to redefine rape.

We cannot and must not stay silent in the face of this extreme effort to undermine women’s health and reproductive freedom in our country.

I am asking for your urgent support to help us raise $100,000 for the DCCC’s Women’s Health Rapid Response Fund so we can hold the Republicans accountable.

In the face of this extreme agenda, we cannot stay silent.

With your urgent support, we will speak out strongly against the Republicans’ effort to deny millions of Americans access to reproductive health care.

Thank you,

Nancy Pelosi
