There are three known events planned:
- 10:30am – Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park (2200 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S.) There is no permit for first group, so we can’t predict if they’ll leave the park and travel elsewhere in the city.
- 2pm – May Day March and Rally for Workers and Immigrant Rights which is permitted and originates in Judkins Park (2150 S. Norman St), includes an afternoon march through Downtown (see route map) and concludes with a rally at the Federal Courthouse (700 Stewart St,) that should wrap up by 6pm.
- 6pm gathering at Seattle Central College (1701 Broadway) This event is being described as an “anti-capitalist” march and is expected to be comprised of protesters similar to groups that have marched through Downtown streets the last couple of years on May 1. The organizers have not been issued a permit or indicated a route.
The Seattle Police will be on hand to monitor the protest and manage any traffic or public safety disruptions. For Seattle Police updates, follow SPD on Twitter @SeattlePD
Additionally, please read the message below from King County Metro regarding projected traffic disruptions in Downtown tomorrow. Metro’s Twitter feed is a good source for traffic updates as events unfold.
On Friday, May 1, all commuters in the greater Seattle area are advised to expect possible significant delays in transit service due to traffic, crowds and congestion associated with multiple planned May Day events.
It is not possible at this time to know which streets will be affected or when. Metro staff will work throughout the day to advise transit customers of impacts to service as they happen. There are currently no pre-planned reroutes.
Any bus service that travels near or through the downtown Seattle and Capitol Hill areas may be subject to delays during Friday’s events. Bus riders are advised to plan accordingly, stay tuned to media sites for updates, revise travel plans if necessary and allow plenty of travel time.
