Racism in Sports …

About 70-78% of NBA players are Black, which means the league is predominantly made up of Black players and other players of color.

I am not familiar with Mr. James Dolan or what he says to these players, but the dynamic of that interview had a tone plantation. You don’t have to know Mr. Dolan personally to recognize how certain situations can unintentionally recreate a racial hierarchy. During the interview, he mentioned Trump several times, using what sounded like racially coded language. This changed the context significantly and added a very negative vibe. Mr. Dolan appeared hesitant and faltered in his speech, but his words seemed to convey an intentional meaning. While I could be mistaken, that was the impression I received. When an owner remains silent or appears to align with such rhetoric, it creates the perception of agreement, even if he never explicitly expresses any racist views.

These are my opinions, but I’m curious about the perspective of any followers on that interview. It didn’t seem to focus on a man’s character; rather, it highlighted:

Language used to frame Black athletes

Who held power in the NBA

Who was being discussed

Who was being spoken for?

Congratulations to the KNICKS …
