De-Escalate Washington State

Washington is leading the nation with its efforts to build bridges between our communities and the police.

We now have laws in place to reduce violence, save lives, and provide justice for so many families. These laws require more training for law enforcement on de-escalation, mental health, and police rendering first aid at the earliest opportunity.

It happened because the community leaders at De-Escalate Washington mobilized over 360,000 people to sign on to Initiative 940 for consideration by the Washington state legislature. Our legislature made I-940 and ESHB 3003 the law of the land. Washington took the lead and did the right thing.

But Tim Eyman doesn’t agree.

The conservative activist filed a lawsuit against the state, claiming the legislature’s action violates the Washington Constitution.

De-Escalate Washington is on the frontline of the fight to stop Eyman’s frivolous lawsuit. They must raise $200,000 over the next few months to take him on. Will you pitch in to help protect Washington’s de-escalation laws?

De-Escalate Washington brought together law enforcement leaders, police unions, prosecutors, community members, and a bipartisan coalition of legislators to adopt I-940 and pass ESHB 3003.

Tim Eyman wants to undo the progress we’re making. He doesn’t care about building strong communities, with unparalleled best practices building trusted structures for justice and policing in Washington. Eyman is only interested in scoring political points.

It’s going to be an expensive legal battle — and De-Escalate Washington needs our immediate help. Can you chip in to help right now?

Very truly yours,

Jay Inslee
