Plant trees to fight poverty

Last month, Earth Day Network made a major commitment through the Global Poverty Project: We’re going to plant 10 million trees in impoverished areas around the world in five years.  And we need your help to make it happen.

For every dollar you donate, we’ll plant one tree.

Why trees? Trees reverse the impacts of land degradation and provide food, energy and income, helping communities to achieve long-term economic and environmental sustainability. Trees also filter the air and help stave off the effects of climate change.

With the reality of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns and more frequent and violent storms and floods, tree cover to prevent devastating soil erosion has never been more important.

Donate today to plant trees where they’re needed most.

It’s the world’s poor whose health and livelihoods suffer the most from the effects of environmental degradation. But while those in poverty bear the brunt of these environmental problems, they contribute very little to the problems’ causes. That’s unjust, and we have to do something about it.

You can do something about it through your generous donation to plant trees in the areas of the world where they’ll do the most good for the most vulnerable populations.

The planet is losing nearly 15,000,000 hectares of forest each year. Through our Canopy Project, Earth Day Network has been working tirelessly to reverse this devastating deforestation by planting millions of trees in places like Uganda, Brazil, Haiti, Mexico and more.

These trees are not only healing the planet, they’re mending local economies and improving the quality of life for those living in extreme poverty. But we have to do more. Please consider contributing to this critical effort today.

Thanks for all your support,

Walgreens
Throughout November, visit Walgreens to show your support for American Diabetes Month.

This November, join Walgreens and the American Diabetes Association® in the movement to Stop Diabetes®.

The American Diabetes Association is excited to announce that Walgreens is continuing their support for the Association as a National Strategic Partner. To kick off the collaboration, Walgreens will be conducting a pin pad donation campaign this November during American Diabetes Month®. From now until Nov. 30, participate at your local Walgreens by donating $1, $2, $5 or $10 when you use a debit or credit card, and help raise critical funds for resources and educational programs in local communities.

In addition, as part of their renewed commitment to the Association, Walgreens continues to support activities designed to help those at highest risk for type 2 diabetes become aware and take action to Stop Diabetes before it starts through the Association’s CheckUp America prevention initiative.

We would also like to applaud Walgreens for their ongoing dedication in support of our signature fundraising events and mission driven activities. Walgreens is not only a National Sponsor of Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®, but this year, they have also won the honor of having the country’s number one National Employee Walk Team in history! Walgreens continues to participate in multiple markets at our American Diabetes Association EXPO®, geared to bring the Association’s mission to life, encouraging attendees to learn to be healthy, active and live well with diabetes. Throughout November, get involved in American Diabetes Month. Visit Walgreens to show your support. Join the Millions® in the movement to Stop Diabetes

This December 1st, our friends EQAT will be visiting PNC Banks all over the region with samples of drinking water taken directly from a contaminated well in Eunice, West Virginia.

This is an opportunity to challenge PNC on its record as a ‘Green Bank’ with a tangible example of the consequences of mountaintop removal affecting thousands of families in Appalachia, and to emphasize that our work isn’t just about the environment, it’s about human rights.

EQAT has a group of action organizers ready to lead demonstrations in over 10 different locations. The only question now is: Will you join them, or will you be leading an action of your own?

Go here to get more info on how you can get involved and to view a full list of actions.

EQAT is an organization committed to building a movement to stop climate change. Anyone who cares about the future of this planet should stand up on December 1st and take action in their area to send PNC a message—the people of Appalachia are more important than a corporate bottom line.

Participants are bringing samples of contaminated water to branch managers, holding fake ‘taste tests’ outside of the bank to educate passersby, taking nonviolent direct action inside and outside of bank branches, and closing their accounts to protest PNC’s investments. What type of action is right for you? Maybe you and 2 friends want to visit your local PNC on December 1st. Maybe it’s you and your whole community.

Either way, if you’d like to hold an action at a PNC in your area (and hook up with EQAT for support and resources to make it easier), or just want to find an action to attend, let them know by emailing eqateam@gmail.com.
